You were the one who come up with the sofa scenario

    No it was Person One.

No I dont have children, but when I was a child me and my sister spent most of the time sitting on the floor or on bean bags actually now I think of it :rotfl: Same as my nieces and nephews. They seem to have an aversion to sofas and like to sit as close to the tv as possible!

And we never broke my parents sofa. Ive never actually known anyone to have a sofa physically break. Including the one I got off ebay for £20.

I actually think the example of a boiler is a better one. If someones boiler broke down then that is something that needs to come first.

And that's why your priority would be travelling for a wedding, but my priority would be something we needed for the home/family.

I've never had a sofa break, but we have had one that's needed to be replaced because of wear and tear and with children, that's happens more frequently!

If our boiler broke down, we'd just get the HA to sort it out so we are lucky in that respect.

They mentioned a few items including a sofa, you chose the sofa alone to comment on and said it would be awful if someone put buying a new one over going to a siblings wedding abroad.

It doesn't matter anyway, I would still put my family's needs (family as in my kids and husband) over anyone else's wedding in my family.

Yes it stood out because I was imagining the sibling saying sorry I cant come to your wedding because my sofa doesnt match my wallpaper - or something along those lines.

Some of the children I look after are banned from jumping on their parents sofa because of that very reason.

I did used to jump on my parents bed I do remember that. Ugh sounds nasty!

Ha! So was I, but it didn't stop me! :rotfl:Breaking my finger did though!

It was nasty. I still have a small scar on my finger from that. Then again, I also have a scar under my right thumbnail after lifting some patio slabs in the garden with my sister (after we were expressly told not to go outside or touch the slabs!), then dropping it, getting my thumb stuck and just pulling it out - off came the nail!:o There's a picture somewhere of me, as a 3 year old, looking like I'm holding a banana. I'm not, it's all the bandaging after that particular incident!

Why would they say that though? It would be 'because my sofa is falling apart and needs to be replaced.'.

It's not about having matching items.

The way it was written made me think it was for a reason like that. It wasnt specified one way or another until later on it apparently became' broken'. The whole thing doesnt really matter anyway because no one needed a new one anyway!

I doubt that would happen, but even if it did, doesn't everyone have the right to spend their money on whatever they want?

Just like a bride and groom have the right to choose were their wedding is held?

Actually I do! :rotfl::rotfl: But it's not terrible yet (and I've no wedding abroad to consider), so we've been spending money on things that really HAVE to be replaced but I think we only have another year, max, out of the current one. But it's done well as OH has had it for over 10 years now!
