You can freeze peppers, but they are so full of water that they go a bit weird and mushy. I'd cook them first, but it depends what you're going to use them for.

Well, not sure to be honest. They were to go into a veggie meal. I might have a look into another method of trying to preserve them before they get to that point.

I freeze peppers all the time. Sure, can't you buy bags of frozen ones? I just wash, slice and freeze. No problem if you are using them for stir fries, soups, stews etc.
What is your banana problem? Sorry, haven't time to read through the whole thread! As I said above, I just peel, wrap in cling film and freeze. Perfect for really ice-creamy smoothies!

Right, am definitely joining this as I am terrible for throwing away veg I have failed to use. I currently have half a leek and half a tub of mushrooms on the turn and am away tomorrow night so I suspect these will get wasted :( - will do a quick search to see what I can make to use them up and start my challenge immediately!

W-I-C Thank you so much for starting the other thread about kids' portion sizes. It has helped me a lot with my 4 yr old.
Just wanted to say about the yoghurts........if I have some that are maybe flavours that the kids aren't keen on, I whizz them up into milkshakes for the kids. I always have frozen bananas now (I haven't thrown away even a quarter of one now for months), milk, use the yoghurt, any other bits of fruit that are hanging around (last of the tin of peaches or whatever), or a spoonful of cocoa powder for a scrummy choc shake.
Great way to give the kids some fruit and yoghurt for breakfast.
You're more than welcome - pleased I can help :D
That's a fantastic idea about milkshakes - will definitely use that. Always have unused fruit getting thrown away, which will now stop.
Well, today I've managed not to throw any food away. Thank goodness...

  • You can definitely freeze peppers - I've a bag in my freezer right now!

Might be best to deseed and chop first though! (And try blanching in hot water if you have time).
  • I have a single bread crust to report, which the weird cat got to before I did. So far I think I'm on about 50p for the month :j

    Plus 4 eggs (don't ask :o). 67p, so running total of 82p :(.

1 flask of home made soup, say 80p. 2 bits of ginger, 50p.

    Running total £2.12 :(

Currently making soup using 2 out of date chicken breasts. Someone said at work yesterday their mantra is 'if in doubt, chuck it out'. Mine is 'if in doubt, eat it'

Small amounts of odds and ends - like quarter of an experimental loaf that I can't stomach any more of and is no good for bread pudding etc. 30p

Total for the month so far £0.85

  • I had a dream last night that I had made Banoffee American Style Cookies, anyone any idea where I would start with those? :)
