We bought in pretty much exactly what we needed. We have used up the trifle tonight, between us, curried the remainder of the turkey tonight and the remaining whipping cream has until 31st December to go so that will get used no problem.

DH took in ham rolls for his lunch today, there is one roll left over so I will probably have that with a bowl of soup tomorrow.

I am loathed to throw anything away if at all possible. I just think that the waste - especially at Christmas - is very wrong so I admire each and every one of you who are striving to reduce and use everything up. Sometimes, it is not always possible to use food and you have to throw some things out but odds and bobs such as bread crusts I still break up for the birds so I still feel that is not wasting such as throwing it in the bin IYKWIM!

  • Rainy-Days I know what you mean, I hate waste and feel so guilty when there are people in the world struggling to feed themselves on a daily basis, where here we throw out so much and think nothing of it. I too make sure if it can't be eaten by my family/made into something else for later consumption then it goes to the dogs, the birds, the compost heap etc - wherever I can think to make a use of it! But like you say, sometimes the odd bits and bobs just can't avoid going in the bin, but I'm trying to make sure that happens as little as possible!

1 flask of home made soup, say 80p. 2 bits of ginger, 50p.

    Running total £2.12 :(

OK, last update of year for me:
    2/3 stir fry veg 55p
3 satsumas from v large, reduced bag 6p
End of tub of hoummous 10p
Left over rice (already reheated) 10p

    Total for Dec £3.91 :T:T:T:T.

A few random items such as leeks going home with DD as they would go off while I'm away but rehoming is ok isn't it ;).

The minced pork for the 'stuffing that never was' has been turned into 4 portions of meatballs and frozen. Pheasant made that well known delicacy Spicy Thai Pheasant Soup , Remaining pheasant & lamb frozen together to make Curry Surprise at some stage, cooked ham (small joint which wasn't nice at all, so got frozen in one lump when I was in a huff with it :o) will get defrosted and used in stir fry & savoury rice.

Am delighted to report absolutely NO alcohol or chocolate wasted :). Which may account for my 4.5lbs weight gain :o.

Well done everyone, we have saved a FORTUNE between us and just as important stopped wasting valuable resources :T.

I'm really pleased with how little has gone to waste here.

I didn't use the Christmas veg peelings for stock as I simply didn't have room to freeze it and around a third of a home made Yule log went in the recycling caddy. Anything bread wise has kept the 3million and 6 starlings that appear everyday at 2pm, well fed.

All meat/stuffing/leftover veg has been portioned and frozen and I should be able to cater for our new years eve "do" without buying anything. In fact the only thing I need to pick up today is more satsumas and washing up liquid.

There was a lovely bowl of stock from the slow cooked beef, sitting in the fridge with a cling film lid as I couldn't find the lid to that pot......sadly it got shoved to the back and tipped over.....but the floor under the fridge is now sparkly clean!!

I'm still on a whole 85p for the month, so I'm dead chuffed :)

I'll leave this thread open for a while to allow everyone who wants to report in their totals for Dec2011 and we now have a shiny new thread for 2012...
