It's a forgiving recipe so you could swirl the sour cream through the cake batter, or if you want to use it separately you could do a veggie chilli and have as a garnish?
Thanks,I've had a look at the recipe and think I'll try it.I just need some frozen raspberries.
The almond and lemon ricotta cake caught my eye.A divine combination.

Wow - just read this whole thread from start to finish. Some amazing tips. I've been and checked the fridge to see what to use first.
I was also forced to eat the last piece of stollen lying in the cake tin - so a good start there!
Not too much going out of date bar a tiny bit of whipping cream - don't like cream much personally so might have to whip it for DH and put it with something later on.How long til pay day?

Not much left in my fridge as I was away over Xmas so didnt buy very much for home, just for my daughter that I left there, so this morning I have made some tomato soup with the leftover toms and for me its all about living out of the freezer I seem to have loads of meals that I have made and frozen so from now I will be eating them, I have taken one out for today and Im not sure what it is but it'll go nicely with pasta, rice or pots!!!! I do seem to have a lot of cheese left tho so I think I will be making quiches, soups and the such like to use it up over the next few weeks. This year I want to get my wastage right down, I impulse buy thinking I will make ... and then cant be bothered so thats it now, menu plan and buy what is needed, not what I fancy.
In a daft way I feel left out over leftovers cos you can have some really experimental meals with them:rotfl::rotfl:

Morning all
I went to my Dads for Christmas(he did the cooking) but I did do the Nigel Slaters Xmas Duck recipe which was divine.
Anyway spent yeterday morning stripping the rest of the duck (only three of us had a little bit it on the day as Dad had already cooked beef)and sorting out the carcas, so now have in freezer
4 portions duck meat
2 portions of stock
1 homemade small dish of duck liver pate (yum)enough for supper for 2
3 portions of scrummy yummy sliced pots that the duck sat on(I did originally put these in one box but in end divided them up as I bet there are soooo many calories in them as they cooked in the duck fat)
I did try to make a kind of duck soup using a carrot ,onion bit of cream and then for some reason shoved in stilton with seasoning- and it's not very good(or at least to my taste) so I think unless anyone vists today and I can palm it of them it will be either offered to the dog or down the loo.:o
I know earlier I had actually weighed a chicken carcas after I had stripped it when I jointed it for the freezer so am in the interest of this thread, going to whip the carcas out of the bin with the bit of skin and leg bones just to see how much I have put in there.........
Just worked it out to be £1.60:eek:
But I think it was still cheaper than buying two duck breasts on their own plus I learnt a new recipe and have meals left over.
Now off to tackle the veggie mountain and fridge cove.

Hi all
I have a massive, unopened pot of single cream approaching its use by date. Anyone any ideas?
Can it be frozen until a later date?Ninja Saving Turtle0 -

OK, have made leftover soup now, and sorted out the fridge, and in the process threw out two rather manky sticks of celery (20p), four green chilis (50p due to buying them at ludicrous cost from supermarket when we already had some when will I learn?), two limes (20p) and the ends of a pack of radishes (30p). Pretty pleased with that nonetheless. Also one onion had gone off, but as it was in an unopened bag stored in a cool place before its 'display until' date, I'm going to complain. Total is £3.98 -- let's see if I can keep it under half the target till the end of the month.Make £2023 in 2023: (all decluttering), current total £2860 me, £330 for friends & family, £468 charity donations.0

I've never done this, but I believe that you can freeze it in an ice cube tray.If you put it in coffee, you can just break off as many as you want.
oscar_the_pug I ended up making the lemon and almond ricotta cake:
www.taste.com.au/recipes/11619/almonds+and+lemon+ricotta+cake
I used up all of the ricotta and added the sour cream.Slighty over the quantity needed, and my baking powder is out-of-date-I've only noticed today.Hope it's ok.
Thanks,I have now discovered a interesting website.More cakes to try....
My favourite cake flavour is anything lemony and/or almondy,so the chocolate and raspberry cake didn't stand a chance.0 -
So, yesterday I did unfortunately have to throw a few things away, small amounts but still more than I'd have liked
- Tiny bit of whipping cream: 14p
- 1/3 of a parsnip: 9p
- Small amount of broccoli: 3p
- 1 potato: 10p
- Half a homemade Yule log: 67p
That brings my total up to £1.52 out of the £3 I've allowed myself between Dec 22nd and New Year
Happy to say a lot of the food leftover from our Boxing Day buffet last night has been used up at lunchtime today, and the small amount that's still left will go into lunchboxes tomorrow when we're back at work. The stuffing from Christmas Day has been frozen in 3 individual portions for later use0
