  • OK, sorting out food for next week. It's been generally good, but I found something musty and aromatic today that I think might once have been a lemon. Let's say 15p. And then I was sorting out the fridge, and a completely unused pair of cos lettuces from Ocado have gone utterly revolting. They are *one* day past their use by date and I have no idea what has happened here. At any rate, they're £1.59 and I'm very grumpy about that. Now up to £6.61 but the end of the month is in sight!

In better news, I can once again feed everyone without buying any more protein, that's so cool. I haven't totted up carefully, but I believe my total grocery spend for November will end up about £200, plus as promised we let the kids have a pizza night so that's another £20. This is just massively less than my previous spend and we have eaten so well, really healthy delicious food with leftovers for the work lunches most days as well.

I'm starting to plan Christmas, too. I have a red cabbage to cook for regular meals, but if I freeze half then it will be there for Christmas, and I went to a Thanksgiving dinner hosted by an American yesterday and came home with a pot of cranberry sauce ditto.

Anyway, thanks again for this brilliant thread; are we doing it again in December?
Make £2023 in 2023: (all decluttering), current total £2860 me, £330 for friends & family, £468 charity donations.

    Yep :)

I think I'll just keep going on this thread rather than starting one for each month... but I reckon it will be worth starting a fresh one in the new year to cover 2012.

While the thread has been well received and quite busy it's not getting the same numbers as the Grocery Challenge - so we'll see how it goes.

So... last day of November I'll post my total for the month, and start a new count on the first of December.

    Running total was £3.55.

Muller Yogurt - frozen, put in fridge to defrost a little to make it more sorbet than icecube like, forgot about it :o. Howver, thanks to an Asda glitch it was only 9p.

1 aubergine, say 25p - a small one from a Tesco Value bag.

Cut end off cucumber, around 0.5cm, say 3p.

    2 frostbitten rolls, 40p.

    :j:T:jTOTAL FOR THE MONTH £4.32 :j:T:j

I know. I am not worthy :o. To be fair there's no room in the s*dding freezer because of all the stuff I've already babged in due to this thread

  • Have been working late for the past three days (as has dh) and have just opened my fridge to discover that the food I left for the tribe to consume has not been eaten!!! Seriously unimpressed....failed at the first hurdle!!

Don't think any of it is able to be salvaged and the dogs won't be impressed with it either so it looks like its going to have to be the bin for all of it ...... think I shall kill children and put them in the bin too!!!!!:D

Mortgage OP £50/£600 House Fund £420/£5000
  • "Who wastes cake?"

....Ummm me? :o (See earlier posts!)

Cake wastage has made up the biggest part of my waste cost this month!!

I will learn - tell OH to take into his work - they might appreciate clementine cake!

Update from me, one pear has also bit the dust - should have wrapped it better, but it got squashed in the bottom of my handbag which made my purse, phone etc all icky and sticky!

Costed at 12p, so total now running at 3.97 I think!

Hope we can keep this going - I'm finding it incredibly useful. I would never chuck out a fiver, and often hold off from buying glossy mags because I can't justify the spend, so it's eye opening to see how much of my hard earned is just plopping into the bin!
  • probably a silly question to some, but i have one bramley apple left over from when i made an apple pie in the week..............what shall i do with it?
Trying to make big cut backs!!!
