OK, I made it just a shade over £20, counting things where you didn't say how much was left as half full..., but, as I said, smart price.

I don't mostly shop in Asda, so a lot of my shopping is Waitrose Essentials, which are about the same price as other people's regular ranges (but I don't worry need to worry as much about animal welfare). I did the downshifting challenge a while ago, and ended up with a huge range, from stuff where I only ever use the branded stuff to stuff where I'll stock up in Asda when I'm there. The big changes weren't so much downshifting as remembering to get fruit and veg off the market, and not buying pre-processed food.

    Thanks for that.... £20... Crikey!!!
I only go to Asda for certain things. I mostly shop at Morrisons and sometimes Tesco.I get most (though not all) of my meat from a butcher. I buy eggs from a farmer... tasty large eggs for £1.50p a dozen.
Fruit and veg mostly from market though not always.
I am going to try Lidl for a few things this weekend.
  • Its been a bad few days, and I'm even a little scared to post how much I have thrown away, especially as I was doing so well at the beginning of the month.

So, here goes, a tin of evaporated milk costing 45p. I bought it thinking it was condensed milk (classic mistake I know!!), then I had heard could be used instead of cream, so I opened it thinking I could have it with some apple cake, but once opened it looked a bit yucky, so we didn't use it. The next day I thought I could use it in a creamy pasta sauce, but really didn't like the look of it/fancy it. So, it eventually went down the drain :eek:

The next admission is some fish. My kitty was a bit sick, so I fed her some rice and fish (I was told by my mummy thats what you should do). A while back my mummy gave me some frozen fish fillets, which she called salmon. I cooked one last night for the kitty, and it smelled a bit funny. Not funny as in off, but not like salmon. I gave it to the kitty, which she happily munched, but I still wasn't too sure. So, I have thrown the other 4 fillets away. I know, I know, I should just grin and bear it and eat it, or do something with it, but I really wasn't sure what fish it was, and didn't want to risk anything. Now, as my mummy gave them to me, I'm not sure how much it cost, but I'm going to say £4.

And the last admission, a couple of slices of (reduced) garlic bread that I couldn't finish yesterday, so thats about 5p.

    Hangs head in shame.

Bringing my grand total to (shock horror!) £5.23 which is considerably over my (what I thought was optimistic)
      £3

I think I need to follow in Squeaky's footsteps, and give myself a good talking to!!
    • Why did you not micro the other fillets for the kitty??? :)

I, too, have recently had an evaporated milk disaster....mine has gone down in family history as being the worst idea for making custard ever.....one slice or two? ;)
    • Well I've just cleaned out the fridge and now residing in the bin are...
      1 mouldy manky potato
1/3 of a punnet of cheap grapes
an ancient half pack of ready to roll pastry

Not sure how much this adds up to but wahtever it is its too much:o

I thought about cooking them for her, but I just wasn't sure. It really didn't smell quite right. I don't want to make her more sick!
    • I forgot to total my errors and I reckon the milk was about 70p and the bit of yogurt 15p so total this month is 85p, will wait till the end of the month and see what I have wasted and then set myself the challenge amount for December.

    • Portion of HM veggie soup - I've left it sitting out too long and it doesn't look appetising. Probably about 40-50p.
