Normally the only things that end up in my one litre ice cream tub are things like peelings and the thick stalks out of the middle of cabbages sort of stuff - and the great majority of those have been used in a stock first.
It usually takes me a fortnight to fill it.
In fact, as often as not it's barely half full but I empty then anyway.
Here we are with a week left to go in the month and I emptied it this morning for the third time.
Cheese on toast for tea tonight, cheese omelette tomorrow, pizza after that. For three days. Still no room in the freezer so I just have half a "neat" pizza the first day, and then the next two days will be a quarter of a pizza padded out with a baked tater, or something with pasta or rice... it'll probably be pasta with a cheesy sauce
Actually, I posted a recipe quite a long time back for pasta I made up with smoked paprika and mustard in it. Yes it is Pixiedust.:) I dread to think how much money I have thrown down the drain over the years.
I have 8 bananas that need eating in the next few days and I dont think I am going to be able to manage it.
Any ideas anyone?

Actually, just totting up the cost of what I throw away had a *huge* effect on me earlier this month. (I totted up your huge list yesterday but didn't post the result because it felt a bit mean -- but I can say if you like, and that was using Asda smartprice prices ). Measure what you want to be good at, as they say.
Ahem. Anyway, bananas. The classic is to freeze (without skins) and then mush for banana bread, but that only works if you like banana bread and will cook it. Alternatively, my family eat a huge number of overripe bananas whizzed up with peanut butter and milk/ yoghurt for a really calorific smoothie. I personally find this a bit vile but mention it anyway; it's a DH cooking special. My favourite thing to do with ripe bananas is banana bread and butter pudding.Make £2023 in 2023: (all decluttering), current total £2860 me, £330 for friends & family, £468 charity donations.0 -
Go on then BohemianCoast.....I can take the shock! :rotfl:
None of them were Asda Smartprice. The only thing (up to now) that I ever buy in a budget range is...erm, nothing.
I am going to have a look on some other threads if I can find any to see whats good in Smartprice ranges. I might try some if they come recommended.0 -
I would suggest banana cake or banana bread, though OH used up one yesterday by having a toasted Nutella and banana sandwich - not my thing!
I don't use budget ranges that much either, mainly supermarket own brand, though am going to be keeping more of an eye on the costs and whether it's just as good to use, say Smartprice chopped tomatoes. Just depends what it is for me, I've never liked budget bread so will either spend a bit more for Kingsmill or make my own.February Grocery Challenge - £100.87/£180February Don't Throw Food Away Challenge - £0.60/£1.500 -

OK, I made it just a shade over £20, counting things where you didn't say how much was left as half full..., but, as I said, smart price.
I don't mostly shop in Asda, so a lot of my shopping is Waitrose Essentials, which are about the same price as other people's regular ranges (but I don't worry need to worry as much about animal welfare). I did the downshifting challenge a while ago, and ended up with a huge range, from stuff where I only ever use the branded stuff to stuff where I'll stock up in Asda when I'm there. The big changes weren't so much downshifting as remembering to get fruit and veg off the market, and not buying pre-processed food.Make £2023 in 2023: (all decluttering), current total £2860 me, £330 for friends & family, £468 charity donations.0 -
Minin update - we did our sole food shop of the week last Sat. We spent an inordinate amount of money (over £150!! - a large chunk went on booze for Christmas and dog food - but still a heck of a lot for 2 people).
One of the lemons we got was mouldy at one end in the fruit bowl today so I chopped the blue bit off. I'm going to call it 5p worth, so total so far is £3.80.0
