Cooking with Quorn?

  • Treat it like a chicken replacement. I have found that it doesn't cook well in the slow cooker as it dries out though.
  • Llike everyone else has said, you can use them the same way as you would a chicken breast though you cook them for a shorter time.. so cut up in wraps or in stews or casseroles etc. I normally marinade mine in some soy or worcestershire sauce or as others have said, bbq or something similar to give them some added flavour.

Obviously they are not as tasty as chicken but in a nice hearty stew (I tend to add a chicken stock cube to whatever I am cooking with them) they can be almost indistinguishable from chunks of chicken. They make a good curry!

I use this recipe for spicy orange pork chops and use quorn fillets instead of the pork. Served with sweet potato wedges and veg, it's absolutely delicious!

Make a chicken casserole with minimum chicken andadd the quorn for last 3/4 hour - works in slow cooker this way.
Mama read so much about the dangers of drinking alcohol and eating chocolate that she immediately gave up reading.

Just a passing thought - if you don't like them much, instead of using them to make a dish, could you not just use them to pad out a meal instead?

Say you were making chicken curry with chicken leftovers...instead of using all chicken, chop up a quorn fillet and throw that in too. It would take longer to use it up, but may be less noticeable.
  • Some great ideas, thanks all:beer:

i am now marinading a whole bag of quorn chicken.

half in reggae reggae jerk sauce with two added mini chillis

And other half in a made up mix of yog, 2 chillis, med curry powder, hot chilli powder, turmeric and a dash of smoked paprika. Will leave for a few hours and cook up tonight

Any recommendations on how long best to leave it for? Some say overnight some say a short while?:)

You don't need to marinate Quorn for a long time, it will never take on the tase of the marinade the same way meat would. It will become a coating on the fillet/pieces, so it wouldn't matter if you left it overnight. X
