Cooking with Quorn?
Comments
-
Well I use it a lot. I did a spag bol last night took me 15mins. Only thing to remember is that it takes up flavours very quickly so for eample if you are doing a marrinaide you only need to put the Quorn in it for about 15 mins. I cook a large onion, and a handful of mushrooms in a small ammount of butter add the chunks, cook some broccoli drain the brocoil and add it to the mixture. to this I add a large tin of condenced soup and some dried parsley. Served with pasta it really nice. My DH is a veggie and I have no idea what I'd do without quorn. I htink its such a brilliant product and it is great that you can get so many different products in hte range now. When I started buying it (almost 15 years now) you could only get the chunks and mince in the chiller cabinet. I remember being dead happy when they introduced the frozen chunks and mince. Have fun with experementing.Blind as you run...aware you were staring at the sun.

I make a dish that has become a favourite at slimming world,
you will need
quorn swedish style meatballs
onions and garlic
tomatoes tinned or passata
balsamic vinegar
herbs and spices ie curry, chilli whatever you fancy reall
pasta any type
fry the onions with the garlic, herbs and spices (i never measure anything, its all to taste), then add the meatballs and fry intil cooked through, then add a large glug of balsasmic vinegar while pan still hot and continue turning the meatballs in all the flavoured juice, then add the tomatoes or passata & warm through, i then leave it all day and then reaheat again later (tastes better!) cook your pasta and serve! (i mix it all together!) I also add anything i feel like, lentils, veggies, whatever really! ENJOY!!!Northern bird on the loose!

I am veggie and eat Quorn once or twice a week. I really like it and use it just the same way I would cook with mince. I made a Quorn lasagne the other evening and my OH said that you couldn't tell it wasn't real mince. He may have just been being polite, though he's not usually, and he did clear his plate so I think he enjoyed it :jDealing with my debt and my weight

My bf is a veggie and we use the chicken style pieces just like chicken, in currys and fajitas for example. The mince i use just like real mince chilli, spag bol, lasagne etc.
it also freezes well as a meal just defrost and microwave.0 -
I marinate the "chicken style pieces" in natural yoghurt and tandori spice. I then fry with peppers. It's very nice served with rice or couscous0

I couldn`t believe it when recently I was discussing `quorn` with someone, another person interjected saying, in a sinister tone, `I never touch it (quorn) it`s made from funghi`. I`m not aware that funghi, or mushrooms, are a problem!0

:rotfl: lol, you get loads of people like that! my darling m-i-l likes to pretend she's "never heard of it" and "don't know what shop you would get stuff like that from" (err..any ordinary shop or supermarket?!)
whatever.............:rotfl:
i don't know what i would do without quorn, it's brilliant. i use it at least 3 times a week. going to try chili-non-carne with the mince tonight, that'll be a new one for me. also use it all the time for spag bol , lasagne etc.
the pieces/chunks are brilliant for fajitas, korma or any other curry sauce, any stew or casserole, you name it - you can use it anywhere you would use pieces of chicken or similar. for a more meaty but still veggie flavour, marinade in marmite solution before use instead. (marmite and veg stock cube mixed together). or marinate in a condensed soup, flavour of your choice, for different flavours, it takes up any flavour brilliantly. although, on it's own it's quite nice anyway.
for sunday dinner i have the quorn roast which i love. a nice meal for christmas or other special occasion is quorn roast wellington. let it defrost a bit, unwrap, cut in half. spread with cranberry sauce. lay on a rolled out piece of puff pastry on the baking sheet, then fold/wrap it up, cook for (this is a guess, i normally just guess it!) about 45mins at about 200c i think, keep checking it though those times are guesswork!
dh is not veggie but eats all of the above and more, as he says it's better than 2 separate meals and he finds it just as good anyway.0 -
A good old Green Day Favourite (Slimming World) I tend to marinate it in the fridge overnight to allow quorn to soak up flavours as it can be very bland on its own. Plenty of garlic and marmite or Chicken or beef oxo cubes.
Yoghurt and curry powder work well too... Yum yumCHOCOLATE makes my clothes shrink:rotfl:
Clothes shrinking rapidly...................:eek
Lightbulb moment! 30/01/07 weightloss so far 36lb.:j0 -
When hubby went vegetarian I started using it. I think it was new, as Sainsbury's always had it for half price. I ate the chicken style pieces instead of chicken - so much easier to prepare and I tasted no difference!! Yum.
As for having no taste, the are salty and perfectly nice to eat on their own.:wall:0
