Cooking with Quorn?

Hi
I've been a veggie for 32 years and I eat a lot of Quron, mainly the mince and chunks.
I also eat plenty of fruit and veg, pulses and wholegrain starches (and the odd cake!!) so I do eat a varied diet and I would say I was healthy .
You can get iron from pulses and green leafy vegetables to, so if you are eating a good balance of food you should have no problems with that.

savingforoz wrote:Protein is protein - the idea of "first" and "second" class protein where meat is superior to vegetable protein, is now very outdated. It was based on incorrect research done in the 1920s and the 1970s. There is no need to consciously combine foods to obtain protein. So long as people eat enough varied foodstuffs to maintain a normal weight, they will get enough protein. As Lightisfading says, people grossly overestimate the amount of protein they need. Quorn is fine as a protein source. The fact that it's low in iron doesn't matter as there are lots of other dietary sources of iron.
By the way, I'm a qualified nutritionist.

Quorn is very low fat, on the slimming world weight loss plan several Quorn products can be eaten in unlimited amounts on both days. So enjoy! If you look in tyhe recipe index you will find a couple of threads about quorn meals, inc one on the slow cooker.Yesterday is today's memories, tomorrow is today's dreams0

H and I are both veggie and eat lots of quorn. I've had 2 children in the last 3 years and have had my iron measured loads as they take heaps of blood all the time. I've never had it found to be low.
If you're concerned about iron then eat lots of other iron containing things - beans, nuts, fortified cereals, spinach and broccoli, eggs
Similarly for protein - eat eggs, beans, soya, cereals, cheese
I think the key is variety. We probably have quorn 2-3 times a week for dinner - maybe mince one nightk, pieces another and fillets a third.
And maybe some leftover bits for lunch one day and maybe quorn deli slices in a sandwich for lunch another day. So 5 or so times a week tops.
We'll have eggs as the main protein for another meal or two, pulses for another 3 or so meals.
And usually a couple of totally veg dishes eg pasta or pizza.
It is really easy, you should go for it!!
Also thanks to whoever it was pointed out soya mince is cheaper than quorn mince, shall be buying that from now on !

Easy to cook, lots of ways it can be eaten and very tasty and as others have said it is a good source of protein and healthy if you have a balanced diet.
I have brought all 3 of my children up as veggies as i myself have been one most of my life and quorn has been somethign they have all eaten regulary. All 3 are fit, happy and very healthy.
For me the only thing i don't like about quorn is the price:rolleyes:Success means having to worry about every thing in the world......EXCEPT MONEY. Johnny Cash

I love the Quorn burgers but aren't too keen on the rest of the range. I think it's the texture, they make it too real. lol.
It's definitely ok to use in a balanced diet, no question about that. I've always considered soya products to be better nutritionally than Quorn but I know that a lot of soya products are higher fat, so I think it's good to have a variety. I can recommend the Linda McCartney sausages, sausage rolls and pies.I've been lucky, I'll be lucky again. ~ Bette Davis0 -
someone mentioned to me about dried soya mince, from holland and barretts - apparently its tons cheaper..... i think im gonna try some of that next time
