IS & DLA, no HB or CTB although I claim single persons discount.

I Charge rent which is paid by direct debit to my bank account.

He has moved into my bed now

can't claim single person discount even before you started a relationship. So his 'rent' is more him paying his way than renting a place to life.

Being shagged by a lodger on benefits seems really dirty. You sure you're not living in some 1970s sitcom?

from the title is does sound like they wouldn't go anywhere near some one on benefits and is asking if it's ok or if they'd caught anything lol
  • Wonder what happens if he falls 'behind' with the rent!?

Aha, so charge him extra. Well that's an opportunity, so, um, charge him an extra fiver a shag, what a bargain, what a result. Cost him ten or twenty times that, at least, elsewhere. Or perhaps a discount bogof generous just two quid each go at the weekends, if you do it at lot extra on Fri night, Sats and Suns. Plus wear and tear on the bed, of course, and any other furniture that comes in for a pounding as you bounce around the room etc. Oh, don't forget carpet wear...

Yes, tricky, as you're here asking, is there any way that you can now regularise the new situation and assert, and be believed, about your account of when it started.

Maybe this is a grey area and there may not be any way for you to be believed or prove what you say. Difficult. I wonder if other people have encountered this previously. You'd have thought so, there's probably quite a few people who prefer to make their situations correct rather than just jog along knowingly doing it wrong once things have changed.

It'd be a shame if your professionalism, honesty, decency etc in now wanting to explain the situation was then used against you.

This must arise from time to time though, so it'd be interesting to know how the benefits people deal with it. Maybe it's case by case. No, there must be some policy and rules about it, and how they're supposed to assess it, surely.

Hmm, sorry, can't think of anything constructive to suggest, well, other than what you're already doing here, try to research it and ask for advice and information. So keep looking for more information about the subject. Good luck. And well done for wanting to do the right thing rather than just busking it and being sloppy.

Ok, a possible fudge solution, which might or might not be worth considering, perhaps he, for official purposes, goes on holiday and or looking for work etc for two weeks to a friend's place or his brother or sister's place, if he's got any, or back to his Mum and Dad's, if they're around, and while there, from that address and using that address, lets the dole know that he's there for two weeks and notifies them of this fact, which is a slight change in circumstances.

This would make a small break in the current set up. And would show that he's notifying of changes, even relatively small ones like that.

Then when he comes back he then tells them, and you do at the same time, that now things have changed.

That way there was a natural break that finished the previous scenario, which was declared at the time, then another "change in circumstances" notified on the return.

    Is that worth considering?

If not, well, anyway, good luck with whatever you decide and thanks for the amusing thread, not that that was your purpose, of course, but, as you can see, the byproduct is that you've given lots of joy and entertainment to lots of people.
