I would also love to see the return of the x00 most recent posts - I used to use this facility several times a day!! I still use the site all the time but agree that it isn't so convenient to make sure you haven't missed anything. The "New Posts" is much more laborious IMHO.

    Just merged these two threads.

Sorry if it's confusing to read
  • tony h .... sorry but i'm confused.
This link just goes through to the list of latest posting topics .... exactly as per the "recent posts" or "new posts"

what i'm trying to get is as per the old system where you could get the last 500 posts .. each showing the post title then the actual words of that latest post .. so yo could just quickly scroll down what was one long page .. glance at heading and if interested start reading the words of the posting.

i used to sgn on about 3 times a day and use that facility effectively having the opportunity at glancing at every post made.

Nothing to be confused about, I think SRA has hit the nail on the head. The ONLY way (other than recoding) which allows you to see post's rather than thread titles is the "Advanced Search Feature". This would have to be edited by Admin to allow for single character searches such as "a e i o u" that way ALL post's would be listed. At this time though it is limited to four characters.

If we all started our post's "Dear" then you would be able to use that as a search value & thus list all post's, unless someone is clever enough to list ALL four letter words that will most likely appear in ALL posts you will be limited to just viewing the threads.

If it helps, did you know that if you hover your mouse of the thread title the content of that thread is described in a popup yellow box. I know this isn't desirable, but if you know what you want to read it would allow you to cruise through them alittle easier......

You can almost see the effect if you go to the Advanced Search, enter:
    the* OR and*

then click "search results as posts") at the bottom

You will see every post that contains the, these, their, them or and - which is almost all posts

if the minimum search word was reduced to 1 then you could enter a * as the search term and every post ever made would be returned - but since the forum restricts the amount of retuns to 500 and displays them in order of most recent made, this should look exactly the same as the old system

The only problem is not knowing if this would make the search-index too big - they tell you that reducing the number makes it bigger but they don't say if it's slightly bigger or unbelievably bigger :D

(and they have to 'rebuild the search' index after making that change- and I don't know if that's inconvenient?)
