really struggling to use this site since the changeover which lost the "recent posts" faccility .. showing all the actual postings in one long page .. which i could also download in seconds and read at leisure .
I don't understand how everyone uses this chat site ... you have to pick a board .. click into it .. see the various posting headings .. which many times don't really explain much.. pick one at a time and have to click into that and read from the first post through.
Just takes forever!! .. it's like going to a house and then having to open every window one at a time .. look in to see if you are interested what's inside than climb in and hunt around !!.
I know there is the "todays posts" or "recent posts" if you are signed in but it's the same time consuming routine ... does the heading look of interest ?? if so click into it and look through the posts one at a time .. or i know you can click to view the latest post ... but can you remember if you'd seen the one before or not !!...etc etc.
With the previous 500 recent posts i scanned headings and first few words of probably 95% of postings .. stopping to read thoroughly if really of interest.
Gave me a massive gain in learning all sorts of snippets. ..at speed .
Really feel as though my brain has stopped functioning as it's being starved of information and knowledge. Life has become very unexciting but i cannot bear to spend hours clicking galore into all these threads and postings one at a time instead of just having one long list of 500 posts to scroll down.
I know there's a handful of MSE's who've responded supporting my plea .. i'd have though that the site should really advocate and promote this way of reading the chat posts as its' undoubtedly the best way of everybody getting the best out of the site ... ie being able to read as much info as easily / quickly as possible.
HELP !!

after clicking on new posts,
if you hover the mouse arrow over the topic title, it does give you the first few lines of the first post....smile --- it makes people wonder what you are up to....

I feel the same as pennymakespounds.
Used to love reading the forum that way while having a morning coffee. That way you weren't stuck in one particular forum or thread, and there was usually two or three posts that really caught your imagination.
Oh well ... ho hum ...0 -
tony h and robnye ... yup i'm aware of those bits but neither help me with the problem and issues i'm raising.
sofa .. need a few hundred more like you to help !!
i've tried again in the last half hour and it's so time taking and boring having to click into everythread and post individually. I've looked at about a dozen in the time it used to take me to look at a few hundred. .. and most that i've dug into this morning weren't worth the effort anyway.
That confirms the point i'm making !!0 -

I tend to stay here:
MoneySavingExpert.com Forums > Search Forums
But I miss all the hints, or people asking for advice, and pure money - I was just beginning to learn the jargon
I've tried not to whinge too much because other things make up for it, like the mail alerts, (which I'd be lost without lol), but I still miss the diversity of it all.
I hope you can read this - I've changed format by copying and pasting the address LOL, and can't find the option to change it back yet0 -
what would be useful is if when you hovered the mouse over the last posting it gave you the first few lines as wellsmile --- it makes people wonder what you are up to....

loafer .. yes i know about that one ... but i'm saying that style is useless as you have to go into everything one at a time rather than the old style where you could get up to 500 posts all there on one screen just to scroll down0

Penny, I'm not sure I understand your issue.
(When the old system reduced from '500 last posts' to '200 last posts', I "think" it was you who raised the issue then. Whether or not it WAS you, I supported the call, since I too used that facility as my main method of reviewing the board.)
In the old system, I always selected the '500 latest posts' (or later the '200 latest posts') several times a day. I could then easily review EVERY post that was made to ANY forum, and open up (in a new window) any threads that caught my eye, and that I wanted to read more about.
But this EXACT same facility is now available in the new system - it's called "NEW POSTS". This performs the EXACT same function, that it lists all the new posts since the last time you logged in (and logging in is automatic anyway.)
The ONLY difference from the old system (which actually makes it BETTER!) is that there is NO limit!
In the old system, if I didn't log on to MSE for a day or so (which was rare!) then I could only review the last '500' posts that were made. But in the NEW system, I can review ALL of the posts made since the last time I logged on! (The system 'remembers' when I last logged in, and then displays all the posts that have been made since that last log-in).
Other than that, they operate in the exact same way. I select 'NEW POSTS' and am faced with about 20 or 30 pages of new posts. I scan them (as I did in the old system) and for those I'm interested in, I will right click on it and select 'Open in New Window'. Perfect! (As I said, even BETTER than the old system, as I now don't miss out on ANY new posts).
So where is the difference/deficiency of the new system compared to the old system? I don't see any.....
Cheers,

don999 wrotePenny, I'm not sure I understand your issue
Don, i think what penny is complaining about is
that in the old forum, when you called back the last 200/500 posts (same as the new posts option now)
you used to actually get the postings, not the thread title
where as now, you get the thread title and timestamp and name of the last poster, but not what they posted
to see what was posted you have to enter the threadsmile --- it makes people wonder what you are up to....
