  • So this is a service where Yodel (famed for being a bit rubbish) drop stuff off at local shops and your hapless customers have to trail down to collect it - after you've had the chore of finding one of the locations to drop the stuff off?

    The benefits are??

Collect plus is a 'to door' service, so the benefit for my particular parcel was that I saved a considerable amount on a heavyish item and I get tracking to the buyers door plus insurance up to £50.

My buyer does not have to collect from a store, I would not use a service that required that

  • I thought I try a little experiment, I have sent two parcel from two different collect plus store on the same day.
From two different town, One has tracked quite well, from delivery booked to processed in central depot.
The other one has tracked from delivery booked to dispatched from the local depot to processed at central
depot but The tracking did not track the Parcel collected by courier.

The status of the tracking as it stands now:

    Parcel 1:

Processed at Central Depot at 10:58, Sat, 26 Nov 2011

    • Despatched from Leamington Depot 19:56, Fri, 25 Nov 2011
    • Despatched from Leamington Depot 19:56, Fri, 25 Nov 2011
    • Received at Martins, xxxxxx 07:59, Fri, 25 Nov 2011
    • Delivery booked 21:46, Wed, 23 Nov 2011

    Parcel 2:

Processed at Central Depot at 07:37, Sat, 26 Nov 2011

    • Despatched from Oldbury Depot 20:09, Fri, 25 Nov 2011
    • Received into Oldbury Depot 19:58, Fri, 25 Nov 2011
    • Parcel collected by courier 17:29, Fri, 25 Nov 2011
    • Received at M F Store, XXXXXX 12:52, Fri, 25 Nov 2011
    • Delivery booked 11:01, Fri, 25 Nov 2011

    Why the discrepancies?
  • Maybe two different drivers, or maybe martins forgot to scan it out on their paypoint terminal, or maybe the driver forgot to scan it onto the van,
have you also noticed that because the shops were in different parts of town they went to different depots, so defo two different drivers

According to my tracking the parcel I sent Thursday morrning hasn't budged from a hub since Friday- I can't say this is impressing me so far. A standard parcel sent via Royal mail on the same day was received saturday as I got glowing feedback for my speed of service.

I have dropped an email to Collect plus to ask why my parcel appears stuck in a hub

  • it wouldn't, I'd imagine it got there late friday and HDNL don't work weekends so I'd imagine it will leave there at about 1 in the morning

I used a Collect Plus shop near me to return an item to HoF, great service, girl who served me was lovely and no delivery issues. Much much quicker than standing in a PO queue for ages esp at this time of year. Have since used it to send other items back and send some out myself. Easy to book a delivery online and just take it to the shop - quick scan and you have your receipt - again much easier and more convenient for me than the PO, esp as I can part right outside.

This is a fairly new concept in the UK I beleive but very common in other parts of the world.

btw, Collect Plus use the Yodel delivery network (formerly HDNL and DHL) so they aren't some tin pot courier company

  • I've opted for goods to be delivered to me via Collect+ - I buy soy wax for candles and M&P soap base, normally 5kg at a time, or more. In theory I think it's a great idea and far cheaper than Royal Mail. However, despite using various collection points over the last few years, almost every single delivery has been problematic. None of the retailers have been near by, they've all been 8 or so miles away which wouldn't matter, but when you get there and they can't find your parcel and you drive home just to come back again another day...... Or the shop assistant has absolutely no idea how to scan & process the paperwork and keeps asking you for money for the P&P..?!!! Argh!!! If I could find a more reliable outlet who know what they're doing I don't mind the drive, as I can usually work in a shopping trip or visit to family, but so far I've been less than impressed. But, it IS a good idea and it SHOULD work!!!
