Ok cool, but please, lay off the bold. Is it permanently enabled

SFC might find something, but again, the [scannow] function of this runs as part of system repair anyway.0 -

The OP has written that it found nothing to repair. That does not tell us the above commands have been carried out. Perhaps you are still smarting from our earlier 'clash', so feel the need to score a point or two.
Let me take you back to the beginning of the thread....command indicated that it found some corrupt files that it is unable to repair.
So, what happened to those corrupt files?
I write as simply as possible, including using bold, as often people miss the most obvious things.... including yourself.
So there is sometimes the need to emphasise, lest I have to repeat myself too often.
So hopefully the OP will come back to clarify their position. Until then....0 -
Not at all, there is no point scoring here. We help where we can.Perhaps you are still smarting from our earlier 'clash', so feel the need to score a point or two.So, what happened to those corrupt files?
Nothing, but doing SFC now will be no different to when he did it before.0 -

It will in that they will have access to uncorrupted system files from the Recovery CD. I feel that I am repeating myself again....

That recovery CD might not (won't) contain every fie though (system or otherwise) hence being only the boot.wim (120mb in size), it's just a ripped from retail/OEM winPE which is the main file that gives the PE GUI.0 -

Even if that were the case, the OP has access to a full Vista disc. No stress.....0 -
So I can get the SFC to access my 2 restore discs? Once I get those restore discs out I might just be tempted to abandon this uphill struggle and go for a full system restore0

You can just download a full Vista disc for recovery purposes.
But you have not clarified the earlier situation.
Though if you are happy to run a destructive Factory Restore, then hopefully that will be an end to it.0 -
No other dialogue boxes have referred to 'corrupt files'. I have no idea where they are saved or how old they are or any other information.
I have backed up all of my files onto an external hard drive. If it is any of these that are corrupt perhaps I could run SFC in that to check. But I doubt that - I can't help believing that the corrupt files are system files (not that I'm any kind of an expert).
I didn't know I could download a Vista Disc0 -
Actually it's still not clear if you could see Vista in the Recovery dialogue box or not. Seems that you are simply not understanding my question.0
