Are you intimating that you are linking to software for free that Microsoft explicitly want licenced??

Yes, I have posted a free link to the Recovery Disc. I have received no contact from Microsoft intimating that they require licence fees from me. Neither have they contacted the file host. In addition, there are widely available links to full OS discs from Microsoft's distributors. So people also have to choice to download the full OS in order to carry out the same procedure.

Now, perhaps you can stop pontificating and write the guide for the OP, lest you be accused of Trolling.
  • I know I'm going to get slated but, ditch Vista and get Windows 7. Problem solved.
  • I am tempted to go with the majority - T.T. and GunJack - but I am in Safe Mode With Networking at the moment...

Unfortunately, Lucero is not here to give you the benefit of his 'advice'.
  • Oops I sent that last again as it did not seem to have appeared in the thread.

  • My PC will not boot to safemode first time around without CTRL/ALT/DEL.

I have now downloaded the Recovery Disc
  • Happened to me yesterday as well. Got a repair disc from piratebay, (original wasnt avaliable from a forum mentioned previously, dated 2008) it didnt work.
Wouldnt boot in safe mode either.
Eventually found a version of system restore (think it was via F8 then hitting tab instead of selecting vista and selecting whatever option was highlighted).
    The system restore worked.
Think it's been a dodgy update when switching off the night before.

I entered the boot menu to get is to boot from the recovery disc but when I clicked Repair Computer it instructed me to Load Drivers. I had a hunt round (which must sound very technical) but could not find the driver so I'm a bit stumped at the moment. When I Googled the problem it looked like I need to install Genius (or whatever it's called) and copy my drivers - seems a bit overboard for this.
Oh - looks like they're in C:\Windows\system32\drivers. Lots of drivers in there!

Driver for the SATA HDD I suspect. You'll need your Chipset drivers.

    Make and model of PC?
