"Computer Repair" as in the recovery disc menu - wasn't that the idea? No I haven't tried Lucero's suggestion yet. As far as I know there was nothing wrong with the drivers to which you linked but, for some reason, they failed to load

What procedure did you follow in order to install the the SATA driver?
  • I think I may have lost the plot here as I thought you only sent links to stuff which I was to load while running the Recovery Disc - after unzipping what you sent and extracting

    No,that's right.

So, you put the drivers TakeThis gave you, on to a USB stick (which was in the machine before you turned it on), then you boot from the Recovery Disk that you downloaded, choose "Repair this computer". It should look for your windows version, if it can't find it (which, technilcally, it should), it will ask you to load drivers. You load the drivers from the USB stick
  • OK thanks - that's exactly what I did. It found Vista but couldn't find anything to repair (and failed to load some of the drivers).

Ok, check the hard drive setting in the BIOS. If the SATA mode is set to ACHI, then set it to IDE.

    Yummy dinner.

Unfortunately I have no chance to replicate what you are doing in order to see what is going wrong.
If it found Vista. you should then have access to the HDD. In other words, you should not need to load any Drivers. From there you can run chkdsk or SFC via command prompt if necessary.

    It is stated:
If you do not see your Operating System listed, click 'Load Drivers' to load Drivers for your hard discs
But you state that you can see Vista, so why are you attempting to load Drivers??

Don't try to change any settings in the BIOS at this stage. We just need to carry on with what we we doing in the first place.

Not really, as he then went on to say it couldn't find anything to repair (as the drivers wouldn't load, it carried on as normal anyway). Chkdsk is unlikely to yeild any further results given that's all system repair does anyway (plus a few other things). :)

Yes, and you said, "We just need to carry on with what we we doing in the first place."

Why, when there's nothing to repair?

If they can see their Operating System, as illustrated.

If they can, then we can continue with a SFC via Command Prompt.
