Vista not booting

Vista is not booting without a prompt. After trying to boot it hangs with a black screen until I hit ctrl+alt+delete - then it proceeds to the start up screen. I have tried running system restore. I tried running sfc http://vistasupport.mvps.org/system_file_checker.htm and the command indicated that it found some corrupt files that it is unable to repair. Perhaps I'll have to try a full restore. My PC is just over 3 years old and this has been going on for a few days now. Anyone any ideas? Thanks. T

You will need to enter Startup Repair from the Vista Windows Recovery Environment. You'll need a disc in that instance.
Follow these instructions in order to create one:Download and save this Vista Recovery Disc Image to a working computer.
Next, download and install ImgBurn(No need to install the Google Toolbar. Remove the relevant tick). Burn the Image to Disc. Use this as a guide(skip step 2b)0 -

Blindman - thanks I tried that but it looks as though I'd have to do it for every boot up.
Thanks TT - I'll have a go at that later. I've dug up an DVD Rw - should do the trick hopefully0 -

DVD-R or DVD+R would be better. Seems a waste of a rewritable.0 -
So I don't have the option to erase the rewritable later? If it's permanent I might hunt round for a - or + R.0

Probably not, as you have to close the session. So use a normal disc.0 -
Would it fit on a CD?0

Yes, it will.0 -
Sod the CD, stick it on a USB stick instead. Much easier.
If you have an original Vista disk floating around, boot from it and it will look as though it's running through set up. At this screen:

Click on Repair your computer. It will make any repairs necessary and then reboot when ready.0
