SATA AHCI Driver
Chipset Driver
The first download should be enough.
You'll need to un-zip the contents and place them on a USB drive. Then when you choose 'Load Drivers' you can point towards the USB drive.0 -

I had a hunt round (which must sound very technical) but could not find the driver so I'm a bit stumped at the moment. When I Googled the problem it looked like I need to install Genius (or whatever it's called) and copy my drivers - seems a bit overboard for this.
Oh - looks like they're in C:\Windows\system32\drivers. Lots of drivers in there!
Oh...you've edited your post. So you've found them.

Just a FWIW. In the 3 years I've been using Windows 7, I've never had to load drivers for the HDDs. I'd be inclined to take a quick peek in the BIOS settings and see which mode your hard drive is set to. ACHI or IDE.0

It's set to ACHI in that machine.. If a Driver was not available, that would have been the other possibility.0 -
Yes I found the drivers - just typed 'drivers' into start search. But I wouldn't know which of that lot to load during the repair. I thought I'd try though but I was only allowed access to 'Boot X' - and nothing from there would load. I'll have to try installing the Chipset and AHCI drivers onto a USB stick. If all else fails I have my restore discs.0

That didn't work. I tried loading the drivers from Computer Repair. The ACHI drivers - "Installation Failed" was displayed. The Chipset "Media failed to install. Contact hardware vendor."
When I clicked the Start-up Repair "couldn't find anything to repair" was displayed.
Looks like I'll have to go for a full restore. Thanks everyone for your attempts to help out with this.0 -

Computer Repair? What was wrong with the Drivers to which I linked?
Did you look into changing the way that the HDD is recognised as suggested by Lucero?0 -
"Computer Repair" as in the recovery disc menu - wasn't that the idea? No I haven't tried Lucero's suggestion yet. As far as I know there was nothing wrong with the drivers to which you linked but, for some reason, they failed to load0

OK that was start-up repair that I tried0
