I have never had bank charges or debts before, have always paid my c card in full and now they are maxed out. I am paying a whopping 789 just to service everything.

OK you haven't let them down BUT if you feel you have (which you haven't ) you are now doing something about it. Give yourself a break hun. You've had more crap to deal with in the last decade than people have in a lifetime.

Hi messedup....welcome to MSE & well done for plucking up the courage to post.

There's no way you've let anyone down......you've been through things most of us are lucky enough never to have to face and you're still grieving for your daughter.....as someone else pointed out, your health is more important than any debt. Don't torture yourself over blowing that money - what's done is done, and you can't change it - so put it behind you and try and move forwards. Think of your sons and try and stay strong for them.....and keep posting here cos you'll find a mass of wonderful and helpful people who, if nothing else, will pop up and give you a hug when you need it most!

Good for you for posting and be aware that there are ways you can be helped with your debt predicament which include paying all the money back if thats what you want to do. There's such a thing as a Debt Management Plan for example where your creditors are asked to stop interest and accept payments towards your debt on a monthly basis. This gives you the chance to begin the road to financial recovery and speeds up the amount of time it will take to repay.

It sounds like you have a great family and very supportive partner who want to help you through this dark and difficult time. There's a great supportive spirit on this website too, and you've done a great thing by finding us and posting here.

I am so sorry to hear about what happened to your daughter. Please don't hate yourself for ending up in the situation you have. I think under the circumstances, it is totally understandable.

The most important thing is that you can sort this out. In the scheme of things it isn't worth ending your life for. You have to stay around for your boys anyway as the damage it would do them if you commited suicide would be devestating for them and I don't think it is something they could ever get over.

My suggestion would be to ring up CCCS in the morning and they will make you a telephone appointment for an hour's session where they will help you do a budget plan that they will send you copies of to send to your creditors and they will suggest ways forward for you and there are ways forward. ...lots of them.

You need to contact someone about your gambling too, can't help you there but I am sure there are organisations who will be able to help you stop your addiction.

You can get through this. I'm in a similar positon but not through gambling and I quite often feel scared too. I have struggled with depression as well and I understand how you may see ending your life as a way out of this but it isn't a solution, not for those people you leave behind.You have two lovely children and a partner and , in my opinion, that's worth living for.
