I've just done this. I'm desperate to go to the Doctor Who Experience, but train tickets from the Back of Beyond are over £40. Hope I can bag some of these, haven't been to London in almost ten years!
Where are you travelling to/from and what dates? Put it in the cheap fares thread/split ticketing one and see what people can find for you"Unfortunately due to heavy demand the allocated limit of complimentary tickets has been reached. "
That was quick
No surprise - it was released last night and then it went out on the MSE email this morning - thats 3 million people alone on the email."If you no longer go for a gap, you are no longer a racing driver" - Ayrton Senna0 -
Thanks crazyterrier but we'd rather not merge it as it's here to specifically discuss yesterday's note.
We've updated our deals page to let people coming through from this weekly email know it's ended now. Thanks to everyone who posted and emailed to tell us!
And Jeff Bridges hair (I've always loved your username!) - there are over six million email recipients now, can you believe it?Could you do with a Money Makeover?

There used to be that many strands of us on Jeffs head but sadly no longer"If you no longer go for a gap, you are no longer a racing driver" - Ayrton Senna0 -

No surprise - it was released last night and then it went out on the MSE email this morning - thats 3 million people alone on the email.
So what if 3 million people got a total of 15 million free journeys? That would be vastly LESS people than FCC have managed to severely p*ss off over the last 12 months alone - with their poor performance compounded by poor communication and dishonesty due to wanting to massage their performance figures instead of admitting to error. Let alone doing their job well and actually managing the service to improve performance like anyone should!
You'd think they'd be happy to have people signing-up to the email updates in order to improve this 'communication' (as staff at stations are empty of initiative and the 'live' info boards that can easily be 20 minutes behind due to the above issues are certainly not up to par here).
I guess they haven't even got interested in changing that much, let alone actually changing, let alone [like this offer could have done] paying people back properly for FCC's own mis-management and all the wasted, stressed hours of commuters who pay ££££ per annum on one of the most expensive transport systems in the world... some people have no shame and this attitude is institutionalised at FCC. F*ck 'em. That's putting it nicely, without any mention of, say immolation...
But also f*ck the idiot equally inept whole privatised rail system encouraging this kind of company. You know, yet another Tory initiative that under the ideals of the beautiful capitalist competition ethic keeps prices right down and performance competitive, riiiight? I mean, maybe it takes many decades of this post-implementation before it can come true? Oh look, we've had 30 years... Laugh if you can, I can't.

As an FCC commuter I'd be VERY surprised if they give away all those tickets. When I first read the post I thought they were giving away a total of 5 tickets, one each to five "lucky" winners...and even that surprised me as it sounded a bit generous considering their usual behaviour!0

Wow Skeenfleet - nice rant there. Im not sure I care though, but thanks all the same."If you no longer go for a gap, you are no longer a racing driver" - Ayrton Senna0

A Thameslink commuter by any chance?
The FCC service I use on their Great Northern route runs almost perfectly to time. I can't recall the last time the train was late arriving at my station in the morning, and I can't recall the last time it arrived more than a couple of minutes late into London. And on the return home, apart from the incident with the rats eating the signal cables a few weeks ago when all services out of Kings Cross were suspended, the train leaves on time every day, and I have only been more than a couple of minutes late home on one occasion in the last few months.
And I always get a seat both ways.
It isn't cheap though.0 -
I love how MSE sends out an email to all 6 million subscribers, yet those who use the FCC line are directed to the offer by a single poster on one platform at SPI.0

I think they all got an email shot out yesterday before it even MSE sent theirs out this morning though keith.
And it was on other places too yesterday."If you no longer go for a gap, you are no longer a racing driver" - Ayrton Senna0
