Thats sort of the point - this ones for the chat! That way we don't have to worry about being on or off topic cos there is no topic! If you want 'relevant info' on survving tough times - post on a tough thread - if you want to chat without being told off come here.....People seem not to see that their opinion of the world is also a confession of character.

Frugal - honestly the other thread is just as chatty as this one, no doom and gloom, just peeps trying to get by, and it has been made clear that 'support in tough times' comes in all guises. As Pink-Winged has said, it looks like a mod is going to have to sort it out, which is a shame coz I though would have thought we could sort it out without it coming to that.Think big thoughts but relish small pleasures0

Wow things must be really really tough as we have 2 tough threads! :rotfl:
I was struggling to keep up with one, not sure I can manage 2 but I will dip in and out of both when I can. Would prefer if we could all play nicely and share our toys in one thread (sorry, not intending to upset anyone with this - I'm probably not up to date on The Issues).
Haven't had a chance to read properly (sorry folks) but hope you're all ok and keeping warm, tis freezing here today. Big hugs to anyone who'd like one! xTrying to spend less time on MSE so I can get more done ... it's not going great so far!
Sorry if I don't reply to posts - I'm having MAJOR trouble keeping up these days!

Houston - I have carpet!!!!
Well, nearly. After not having carpet on the stairs since I moved in, the painting has been done and now I am at the carpet point. However, yet again my luck with tradesmen goes before me. 2 carpet bods have never bothered getting back to me with a quote. I suspect it is because I want a runner rather than a normal carpet and this involves alot of work with the whipping.
However, this lunchtime I headed to somewhere in town and I now have an appointment booked for them to come and measure up!This is far more positive than anything else that has happened. So fingers crossed I can afford it. I am soooo excited about finally having something under my feet before winter. :T:T
Noob - I want a hug please!x
I dont really care how many threads we have, having more important fish to fry. One, two or twenty (just for Pink to manage!)

Is there any other sort Noob???
I have had a nightmare doing the cottage up. My record though was 9 carpenters! None were interested because it wasnt a standard size door. The thing that annoyed me the most is they waste my time coming round in the first place - time I dont actually have.
So I have come to the conclusion that most just dont want to work, or want anything out of the ordinary. What they dont realise is that if they do a good job for me I have 5 other people watching who I use!My bathroom "creator" was double the price of everyone else but did such a good job that out of me came £15k worth of other work.

Wayhey!! New carpets... Aw the simple things in life make us so happy!
Fingers crossed it's as cheap as chips for a great quality carpet!
I think sky are throwing offers at people - when I called them to cancel because I was moving, they offered me 6 months half price everything including free multiroom and HD! I think the poor girl thought I was haggling and kept offering me more - but my mum already has sky, so I really just wanted to cancel! I agree, I think it's worth ringing and saying your thinking about leaving.
Although, sky and virgin have some sort of agreement between them. My mum was a virgin customer and told them she was moving house. She was still contracted in, but didn't want to leave and was happy to take the service with her... Because she's in the sticks though, they didn't provide the TV service, so virgin installed her phone and paid for sky to be installed... So my mum pays virgin to watch sky, and was given a discount and free channels for the inconvenience - which was really no inconvenience at all! :-)Sometimes lurking, sometimes posting, but always flying

re Sky we had a spare box when we got the new HD one (free of course!) so we had it installed upstairs for DS3 when they had some offer on for free multiroom. He only ever watches DVD's in his room and never used it so when I did our 'annual review' I phoned Sky to cancel it only to be given 6 months half price on our package without even asking :j:D
Definately worth a phonecall.
Red my middle boy has scoliosis did you ever have the op? He's had 8 now and tends to suffer more aches and pains when the weather is cold.
Nuala how are your hands now??Good to see you posting againand Tru

Redlady - I thought it was just here that getting a builder (or any trades) to quote is like pulling teeth - called the Pembrokeshire Promise here (even by thems that are b&b here :rotfl:). I just don't understand why they can't just say 'not interested' instead of promising to come then never turning up or alway having a reason they can't start a job. The other trick is to quote, but make it so high as to be laughable - why waste their time? It drives me mad:mad::mad::mad:.Think big thoughts but relish small pleasures0

D &DD - oh yes indeed! I win all scar competitions hands down!
As I am of um, a certain age, I had Harrington rods put in so was skinned like a rabbit and then one either side, bits of bone lobbed off, yanking of the rib cage, fusing and general messing around and Bobs your uncle. I was 14 when I had it done but had no pain at all throughout all the time I worked out, even when I did karate. It was only when I stopped the trouble started. My OS (surgeon) said one of the best things to do was aqua aerobics. I certainly dont envy your lad having 8 :eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek: operations. I don't ever want to go through it again. Pure hell on earth. How old is he?
Perhaps the idea is to keep phoning Sky threatening to cancel every 6 months? I dont have a TV so dont really get to see it.0
