hi all :wave:just been catching up with the tread .... great reading:DHobsons_Choice wrote: »The old vinyl's been down for ten years and was nasty cheap stuff, which was all we could afford at the time.
Now we can afford nice-but-not-too-expensive stuff and I'm thrilled. Got it a good price in their sale.
I finally got new lino in the middle of August - the old stuff had needed replacing since I moved in (nearly 5 years:o) but just hadn't had the funds before.
Gave in a cashed in the £2 coin jar as just couldn't face another winter with drafts seeping through the rips in it  and managed to get a bit to fit both bathrooms (they are small!) for just over £50 so pretty pleased with that.
You would not believe the difference it's made .......:D so worth every penny!Grocery Challenge £211/£455 (01/01-31/03)

I agree with all your points Jojo but I promise that the VAST majority of posters, certainly on the thread that was closed yesterday, are generally upbeat and positive people and are just trying to muddle through. That's how most of us would like the new thread to be too and I see no reason why it can't be. Meantime I'll keep an eye on both threads for tips, support, warnings and giggles.

I'm a simple soul with a fairly loose grip on economics but want to keep a bit of a tighter hold on me purse strings whilst creating a happy home,I hope this will prove to be a lovely friendly thread to hold on to
I have a curry simmering in the slow cooker and the house smells out of this world...I have picked up some lovely tips about lots of things so far, so thankyou xx

Honestly... Does it really matter how many threads we have? After all, most of us who post here (or lurk!) look at other threads anyway.
I really don't see why we can't have one more light hearted one, and one more geared towards the seriousness of the economy... Someone else described the other one having apocalyptic predictions (or something along those lines) and its that that turns me off that thread - Sorry but my state of mind is bad enough with my own problems atm without worrying about greater things that I can do nothing about.
So can we please just leave it that we have 2 threads - a more serious one and a more light hearted one - that way, those who want to discuss more serious issues can chat together and maybe have more in common, and those of us who, like me, want to ignore the 'news and world financial crisis' can chit chat here without the more serious stuff scaring the bejeezus out of us?
Pretty please?0 -
NOOOOOO - not carpetright!!! I wouldnt bother trying to get them on the phone. They are one of the two people I tried and "someone would be phoning me to arrange a visit". That was two weeks ago but as you cannot actually access the shop by phone nor leave a message, I have given up with them. Best to go in. That said my vinyl came from them in the kitchen and providing you know exactly what you want and are going to fit it yourself then you will be ok. They have some very nice vinyl at the moment.
I just feel the cold full stop. I also have another condition which "lives" in the spinal cord. Because mine is weak when I get a bad back, I know I must take preventative measures for the other condition. A Dr friend (virologist) told me about it. It seems there are plenty of us wonky types knocking around.
Jojo - if you are near me then let me know. I will help you out with your cleaning and then your DD can "inspect" the metal work too :rotfl:0 -

I really need new kitchen and bathroom flooring - the laminate I put down years ago has been trashed by tenants over the years and its also freezing in winter - DD won't come in
I want a nice thick cushioned vinyl - no idea what it will cost but thats totally irrelevant atm as I have no spare money!!!
I've got a couple of good contracts coming up before Xmas but not sure if there will be enough to cover flooring as well as Xmas.0 -
We did our kitchen 2yrs ago. We still have the old vinyl, cut back by the builders so there is loads of undelay. Then DH decided to boil lead and put a hole in it. I WILL get it replaced before Xmas. Maybe. Hopefully. Trip to Allied this weekend methinks.GC Mar 13 £47.36/£1500

Frugal can you spare a couple of quid for a cheap rug? I have a good sized one in my lounge from Ikea that cost only £12, even if it's just to tide you over?I have a gift for enraging people, but if I ever bore you it'll be with a knife
