  • I'm yet another one with black hair, going grey at the front. Have got to dye it again this weekend as there is about 2 inches of approx 30% grey roots giving me away atm. Can't see it in the mirror myself but just about all of my students are taller than me and I wouldn't want them sniggering when I am staring them straight in the chin and telling them to work harder!

Thanks to those who suggested Asda for halloween

    Got girls reasonably priced costumes.

wasent huge choice in dress up
but noticed the halloween seasonal ailse of sweets, halloween decorations/accesories was huge think maybe its becoming bigger in uk like in the states. Im mainly celebrating as have kids and my 5year olds super exited, daddys not so exited about trickle treating but hes going!

I brought some sweets for kids that come
going to bake halloween fairy cakes like last year just plain sponge, icing and halloween sweet on top cheap but cheerful.

got reduced decor from primark sale last year

pumkins in asda were £1 I got quite exited!-not seen it cheaper
hubby says its deformed but think its adds character.

question want to puree for baby.

do i carve the pumpkin take out inside then roast the pumpkin in a tin?
hoping make few days baby food he loves butternut squash

Also found the 25p cartons of smart price passata.
must admit got bit exited and was estatic:rotfl:
Havent found it cheaper morrisions did one same price but discontinued it so been paying 45p in lidls for their nostia brand.
I brought 6 cartons had to get on tippytoes as front shelf empty so must be popular.

Also got smart price herbs 19p
their ketchup was 21p cheapest I found.

I always buy value fromage frais as kids cant tell difference so 18pots for £1.50

But dident find as many basic brands as sainsburys.
in asda was hard to find but its big asda and I dont know layout so took me ages.

Only took cash in which saved me going over budget ands getting crap dont need was ruthless , foods just got basics and no luxuries strictly kept to the lists.

But then went to co-op brought lost reduced things including few treats
again got overexited and cxarried 2basket round and got few you phycho looks:rotfl:.

Everything brought was reduced or on offer I aint paying fullprice.
whoever did reductions today was weird
they had same item, same weight , same date reduced to different prices. because was buying time 2.
cheekily asked cashier who called over supervisor who gave me both at lower price:D

Got another weeks worth of meals at least with chicken and 2packs of finest mince.:A:A.

get such a kick out of getting a bargain.

bit gutted cant afford sainsburys toy sale but think never mind will get bargain presents for kids from elsewhere.

    inspection went ok.

    took kids swimming

went to maccy ds as eldest saw m sign, was starving.
    big mistake was very busy.
i popped in and got her a happy meal which has gone up 10p last 6months was £2.19 in march. now £2.39.
Looked at the menu and thourgfht its soo pricey could get nicer and cheaper elsewhere but somehow fast food seems recession proof.

    Hope everyones ok.

First attempt of making bread pudding is in the oven, smells luuuuurvly but unsure how to tell when it is cooked properly. Oh well at least the house is warm and smells nice :D

Bought three cabbages (4p) from the whoopsie bin at Mr Ts so have been blanching like crazy only to find I have run out of freezer bags :o

Auntie C has been up with a food parcel so we have mince pies, dairy dunkers, swiss roll, eggs, ham and a few other bits :T Love the Auntie C food parcels.

Halloween party Saturday so will be full steam ahead getting ready. I am a tad behind as I did not get up til 12 today I must have needed it and thats all I have to say on the matter :rotfl::rotfl:

Why do I have a picture of the 101 Dalmatians and Cruella when Mad mentioned black and white hair???? :D:D:p

of course in the (Dodie Smith) book Cruella De Vil was a very beautiful and glamarous woman. I expect that's what you were thinking of!

Wow, I've missed loads while I had my family down!
I got the kenwood and put it to good use making chocolate and banana cakes on Tuesday evening. I've sent a loaf back with my sister for my Dad to say thanks so much for the kenwood. Hopefully he'll actually get it and will see how much I appreciate it :D. I have a feeling he doesn't get much appreciation from my sister or any of the other kids really :(.

Have nephew staying the night tonight. His Mum had better be round at a reasonable time tomorrow because I'm working tomorrow night and will need to have a little sleep. Was going to have a lie in in the morning but she's decided I'm having him.
My other nephew has half pulled off my curtain pole so DH and I are going to have to be really careful trying to fix it back in. We only redecorated the room in February and don't have any paint for touch ups so we would have to repaint the whole lot :( He's also broken the cat scratching post and his sister has broken DD's stool. Great fun :(

Not had heating on all week and had sis moaning about the cold since Tuesday. Her DD was moaning too until I told her to put a jumper on. She said "We don't wear jumpers at home, we have the heating on"
I said " we can't afford to and it's not cold. I'm perfectly warm with a jumper on. Just move around a bit. This is a big old house and the heating won't warm it up for long anyway so you need to get used to it".
Yesterday morning was  the amount of condensation on the windows. Everyone complaining about the cold- I threw open all the windows and explained that you can't heat up wet cold air, you need to get rid of the wet air to make it warm. It was toasty within an hour. Lovely sunshine yesterday. It was a pleasure to take (some of) my nieces and nephews for a walk. Others are townies and moaned all the way round the park *shrug*.
Off to catch up with other threads too, TTFN, Kaz.

  • Kaz I know exactly how you feel. We had some visitors today who kept going on about the heating.

    They started off by saying

"its ok I brought and extra cardi as we knew we were popping in"
Good idea we all have jumpers on in this house

" What date in November did you say your heating would go on?"
Not before the first and then it depends how cold it is

"Are you sure the kids are warm enough"
It is quite warm upstairs, practically tropical since we had the loft and cavity wall insulation done. Besides they have snuggle blankets if lounging around and they can't be that cold otherwise they would remember to shut the back door when letting the cats out.

"Is it worth betting with your friend to see who can keep the heating off the longest?"
Yes because I don't feel quite so crazy having someone in RL doing exactly the same thing

"you have your windows open in this weather"
    Same explanation given as Kazz

The when I put the oven on for cooking tea and baking (to fill oven at same time) they moaned it got too hot :eek: some people :rotfl:

Last night on the way back in from a whooopsie run I notice next door had all her lights on, I nearly sent her a FB message to nag her to death but thought I would leave her and pick on her later.

We do get on well and she is desperate to save money and always asks for pointers so I sent her the tightwad gazettes round to read but I don't think she could have got as far as saving energy.:rotfl:

So, does anyone else feel pressured into putting the heating on when they have guests????

    PIC x
  • PIC - in a word "no". My house, my rules - sorry if that sounds awful. I find now when I go to other peoples houses, I'm roasting and it's really stuffy.

Heating off here too and the windows are still open upstairs .... it's about 10 deg out.

Just been chatting to a pal who lives in Gibralter and it's still 21 deg there .... ohhhhh that would be nice for a day or two!:D

Well, I had a shocking jolt to my thinking this evening. My sister went home at 12.30. I got home at 1.15 and my other sister was outside. She brought her son in and only stayed until about 2.30. When I clocked the heating controller this morning, the temperature said it was 17 degrees. This evening, just before DH got in at 5.45 pm, I glanced at the clock. It was 18 degrees without having had the heating on at all! We shut the windows at 1.30 this afternoon and there have only been me and DD, DS and nephew in. I've only had 3 coffees since then too :).

I also have been able to borrow the dehumidifier from my Aunty and Uncle so that's burbling away in the kitchen. It probably won't switch itself off until May :o unless I forget to empty it :o

Best you dont ask about the other thread NB.

Look on freecycle for the breadmaker. Thats where mine came from.

Yep, I will take the hug again please! :D

Why do I have a picture of the 101 Dalmatians and Cruella when Mad mentioned black and white hair???? :D:D:p
Endless supply of hugs here Red and could do with one myself. Have heard what happened and am feeling very upset about it. :grouphug:

Now aren't you clever - thank you for suggesting freecycle, I never ever thought of asking for one there. We tend not to get great stuff but well worth a try and it's not an urgent thing after all. I got offered a blender months after posting my ad so you never know!
Trying to spend less time on MSE so I can get more done ... it's not going great so far! :)
Sorry if I don't reply to posts - I'm having MAJOR trouble keeping up these days!
