my neighbour is coming over to have a shower as her boiler is broken - I've turned the heating up for her!People seem not to see that their opinion of the world is also a confession of character.

Heating off here too and the windows are still open upstairs .... it's about 10 deg out.
Just been chatting to a pal who lives in Gibralter and it's still 21 deg there .... ohhhhh that would be nice for a day or two!:D
Same here re heating and visitors - and in the car the rule is "driver says" ie the one doing the work (driving) sets the heating and radio/cd player.
My heating is not set so that I have to wear 3 fleeces and 2 scarves all the time, just at a temperature that means I wear appropriate clothing for the season. If my visiting friend's daughter wants to wear ballerina type shoes, no other footwear, and insists on a navel-baring top at the end of October that's up to her (friend is wearing t shirt, long sleeved top, socks and boots like me) but I'm not listening to complaints about feeling cold under those circumstances. (Mind you, I do remember being a teenager and occasionally suffering as a result of my own clothes choices)
rach - turning up your heating for a boiler-less neighbour is a very kind and welcoming gesture and I'm sure it is much appreciated."Life is not about waiting for the storm to pass...it's about learning how to dance in the rain." ~ Vivian Greene0 -
Unless people are earning a packet then all these clothing(or lack of) issues will go away when they get the first winter bill.
Born blond I wonder if you could use roasting bags in your slow cooker? I know in America they have slow cooker liners so surely roasting bags can't be much different.0 -

Some people don't seem able to connect the dots though. Our upstairs neighbour came down with her electricity bill to compare to ours. She was very upset and couldn't understand why it could possibly be higher than ours, since she's on her own, has a small TV, no computer and never uses her oven. We never use heating or air con (we use extra clothing and a blanket in the cold, and a ceiling fan in the heat), she turns on her heating at the first sign of cool (with the window still open for "fresh air"), and turns on the air con at the first sign of heat, but she doesn't think that can be it, and is thinking of getting someone out to look at it....Softstuff- Officially better than 0070 -
I know softstuff but with the rises in fuel bills of 18% for gas and around 8% for electric bills will be enormous and many will struggle to pay. Then the penny may drop. The increases will be most noticeable in December or January
Pigs feet. I remembered something about them so went searching. The jelly made from them can be used in meat pies here is a site that explains if you scroll down a bit.0 -
With the heating thing I tend to feel a bit coldish around 4pm so a jumper goes on but by about 7 the house feels really warm again even though there's no heating on. I think it's to do with the fleeced curtains and winter/draft proofing I've been doing and the neighbours putting their heating on.
Nothing at all to do with any alcohol I may be drinking:D0 -
FTM congratulations.
My youngest dd also almost fainted when she had her ears pierced at 12 and she now has 4 children all born naturally.
She is still squeamish though as she is doing a beauty course at college and hates the waxing module so much she gets the other girl to do it.
I am just soo glad she was not into animals or we would have had a zoo. I could imagine her coming home with every stray in the neighborhood she is such a softie.0 -
Well OH managed to move the computer to its new home and reconnect it all in one day
. He could not set up the wifi though. Still it has only been in the box for 8months.
Just got back from late night shopping at Boots who had an event on with extra points. Got some Christmas gifts on 3 for 2 and checked my card in the machine (a tip I got from Gaily on a previous thread) and got 25% off a bubble bath and a body scrub for me. Bought a cheap hairdryer for DD2 for Christmas as my hairdryer seems to have taken up residence in her room and when it got put through the till there was £5 taken off the price. I do like a bargain :T.
Had fish pie made with woopsie fish and some of the pear and crumble left over from last night, so that was nice and cheap. Will get creative tomorrow night with the left over veg from the roast dinner last night. Thinking of covering them with cheese sauce and topping with breadcrumbs.I am playing all of the right notes just not necessarily in the right order.

Congratulation FTM. I would love to be a granny.
I have never had my ears pierced but some years ago when my DD talked her dad into letting her have hers done, I took her to the hairdresses where they did it and thought maybe I would pluck up the courage to get mine done too. Well all went fine with DD until she stood up after having them done and promptly went dizzy and was sick. I've never had mine done!Second purse £101/100
