I would love to go silver fox grey (helen mirren style) but can't afford regular hairdressers to keep it that way and everyone seems to say "don't try this at home"0

old tractor, you sound a bit like me, I am always making a mess exhausting myself doing what I think I should do instead of being content with what I can do.
I have to have a word with myself every now and then too. I reward myself with watching a really doom DOOM movie and eating loads of jelly babies.
You have to be good to yourself or your no good to anyone.0 -

Hello, hope there's no more partying tonight, as I'm usually like the Olympic flame - never go out. Last night was a massive departure for me and now I'm back to my self help books and writing snotty emails to the Daily Mail.
I dyed my hair yesterday with the £1 packs from Wilkos and have to say it looks fabulous. Just as good as the £54 salon stuff I paid 4 weeks ago. I'm a convert now.Cogito ergo sum. Google it you lazy sod !!0 -

Flower: lovely news, congrats to eldest DD. My only grandaughter is now 3 months old and a joy. Both 'boys' are now in their mid forties, so I expect this to be the only grandchild we'll have. Doubly precious.
SDG: Brilliant! So glad you got your money back.
Old Tractor: Be gentle with yourself and try not to be all things to all people. We all need a little "me" time, you'll be no good to anyone if you crack up!
Mardatha: Julie Walters looks great with natural grey hair. (Says she, who dyes hers blonde - Nice n Easy 103a).
Backs: Echoing everything said. Warmth; painkillers; Omega 3 capsules (works for me) and not overdoing things...know your limitations.Normal people worry me.0 -
I stop the draft from a keyhole by leaving the key in the lock. Also means that I don't lose it!
Long Life - an old Lincolnshire recipe
6 fresh eggs (no more than 3 days old)
juice of 6 lemons
1/2lb clear honey
1/2 pint rum
Put the 6 eggs in their shells into a baisin: pour over the juice of the lemons and leave for 7-10 days. Turn the eggs every day, so that they all get covered by the juice. After a few days the shells will start to disintegrate, and by the end of the soaking time almost all shell will have disappeared. Only a few pieces and the skin-like membrane will be left. Remove both the skin and any bits of shell, and beat well. Strain, add the honey and rum, and beat again so that the honey dissolves.
When it is well mixed, bottle, and shake the bottle each time before using.
It can be drunk immediately, but like all home-made drinks it is better to leave for a few days before broaching the bottle. This quantity makes 11/2 pints.
From The Art of British Cooking by Theodora FitzGibbon
I like purple and blue hair (not blue rinse) and also crimson red (not scarlett) but I find that anything blue based washes and fades very fast, plus with any of the fun colours it is quite hard to do roots because they all fade quickly and then they are very hard to match, so you end up haveing to redo every few weeks which can get rather expensive0 -
I have cola bottles from last Friday. Willing to offer for tonights party!GC Mar 13 £47.36/£1500
