I downloaded a book from the library website this morning, how thoroughly modern am I ???? I don't think I like reading from a screen and much prefer a good old fashioned book but I will give it a whirl.

Does anyone here suffer from a bad back? I have suffered for years on and off. Is there an OS way of coping with this/magic cure??? Feeling a little sorry for myself as it gets unbearable just before it rains :(

I go out clubbing with my daughter and a mixture of both our friends (back permitting) I don't think you ever too old. Its not the age that's the problem its the high prices and the herding to get in that I don't like. I am a smoker and spend most the night chatting in the pig pens they put outside places :rotfl:

PIC, I've got degeneration of the bones in my lower back (as well as a "funny" pelvis resulting from a riding accident many years ago) so can symphathise totally.

On the non-OS, I go for a massage every 4-6 weeks which helps loosen things up and helps tremendously.

On the OS front, I find a hot water bottle is really soothing if it's playing up.

I also have several spare pillows that I wedge around me at night so I can't move into a "silly" position (from which I can't get up from in the mornings).

Nice o see you all had a lovely virtual party - I was at a RL gathering (with once virtual friends) so am feeling a little tired and fuzzy today.

Enjoying the slower pace of life of half term but gearing back up to speed get a few things done over the weekend - dreaded trip to ikea and starting work on our bathroom makeover (maybe).

PIC - I did my back in a year or two ago when I fell off a gate,:o (elegant as ever).

I found the only thing that helped was a hot wheat back. As they are floppy you can push them into the nooks and crannies that hurt.

Edit - that should have been hot wheat PACK. (Sorry - was in a hurry)
  • PIC: I have spinal stenosis (prob arthur-itis related). I find taking Omega3 capsules seem to 'oil the wheels' a bit. I also have back supports on my computer chair and car seat.
Trying to find a Pilates class around here, but no luck yet. I've heard that's useful.
    Normal people worry me.

    I've been Money Tipped!
Another back sufferer here. I have a nuerological condition, and one of the associated problems for me is sciatica (not constant but recurrant and sometimes feels pretty constant!).

My rules for survival are:1. don't let the pain get too bad.. STOP what's hurting it, and take pain killers BEFORE spasms start if at all possible.....quitting or not doing anything for a day is better than being unable to do anything for a week while muscle relaxants do their stuff slowly. 2. Keep it warm. Now that sounds nuts from a woman without heating, but my sort of pains do respond positively to warmth. I try and keep the area where I sit through the day some where relaxing temperature with a hot waterbottle/electric blanket, and keep warm clothes on. Its weird how cold feet can make a back worse, but they can, so warm feet, warm body even in cold air. 3. little and often: a days rest when the back is good is a day's increasing unfitness making it worse when you can't rest....so do a little everyday, and when you are not doing do get up and move every 20 mins ish, so nothing can ''lock'' where its not meant to. 4. try not to put on weight...(big fail for me:() it puts a lot more stress on the problem and exacerbates it.

Thanks littlecal and those that liked my post. The woman's husband put the money through the letterbox in an envelope. I have to admit that I started crying after opening it. It is just such a huge relief. It now means I can go to the Sainsburys toy sale tomorrow and The Book People warehouse sale on saturday and buy some christmas presents. I might have a small drink or two to celebrate tonight.

I've found the self heating pads useful for back pain. The one use ones that you stick to your clothes. I think the brand name is curaheat, but I get mine in the pound shop.
