No. don't buy booze ever, and as for going out - last bus back is 11pm and the current rate for a taxi is £30
He he, I don't suppose you want to know that Shoebox Towers is beside 1 pub and 1-2 mins walk from several more.........:rotfl:If I was a drinking woman (and I'm sober as a judge, y'honour, hic!) I'd be well set up for going on the rampage.
Of course, the flipside is that you get drunken idiots staggering past your home at 4 in the morning, tinnies in hand, gabbing nineteen to the dozen. We also have an "echo-y" spot not too far from here that passing fools sometimes find on their way back from the pub. You haven't lived until you've heard 5 p*ssheads collectively singing "You'll Never Walk Alone" in the small hours, each in their own key and with a slight timing fault which meant the lyrics were intriguingly time-lagged.I shoulda recorded it, think it had commercial potential - sooo baaad it was brilliant...........
 Slept in today, have firmly reverted to winter-mode when my formerly early-rising self becomes like unto a dormouse and would curl up in the teapot a la Mad Hatters Teaparty, if I could. Good job I work part-time, is all I can say, or I'd be running around like a mad thing just about now.
I think I knackered myself last night moving one stuff around in the flat. Had a LBM and shifted a trolley into the bedroom which meant various storage boxes are now mobile instead of in a pile. It has also meant easier access to the tinned goods larder in trollies under the bed. I love furniture on wheels, I'd love everything to be rollable.Hand on heart, I haven't bought any more tomatoes since the summer but have enough pasta and other stuff to withstand a siege. It is fairly improbable that this part of Englandshire would get severely snowy as it hasn't happened since 1962-63, but if the food deliveries can't get thru, I shall be able to feed myself and half the neighbourhood, too.
My Dad can recall winters where you got the root veggies out of the ground with help from a pickaxe.
:xmastree:My folks would never let us put the tree and other decs til Xmas eve and they had to come down on Twelth Night. Very strict about that for some reason. I did wrap some pressies last night as I realised that the folks are coming up in the car on Sunday and can take them back and that means I shan't have to give myself a hernia dragging them around on the coach on Christmas eve.
Redlady, what does FK do with the tree? Does she climb it and try to stay up there, or is it up-and-down for sheer devilment? Wish I could see it. One year when I was growing up, we had a 6 month old cat, and so did next door. The sat together under the tree bewitched with the shinyness of it all, peacefully batting a bauble to and fro between them. It was a seriously awwwwwww moment.Gonna wander off now and admire the small amount of bedroom floor that isn't under the bed, now that it has been recaptured from the clutter monster.
Have a good day everyone, GQ x

Hello
am just sitting here doing not a lot at the moment. Watching Kirsties homemade home. Am about to pick up the needles in a moment to try and get on with my cardigan. I'd like to get to the point where I can start on the sleeves by this afternoon.
In our house we put the tree up on the evening of the 19th as it's DS's birthday. Last year we put the tree up before because he wanted it up for his birthday. He said the other day that he didn't like it so we will revert to tradition this year and put it up after his birthday and all the guests have gone.
Cross with myself yesterday, I stayed up until 10.30am and then got up at 1.30 for the chimney sweep so was tired. Work then rang me at 4.30 to see if I could work the night shift. I had to say no because I'd not had enough sleep and it could have made me some extra pennies for the holiday.
DH commented that he's not going to get his wages today which is really annoying. We need them. Getting a bit  about finances really. I think I really need to start ramping up the extra shifts in order to boost the finances or we are going to start going into the overdraft all the time.. Feeling a bit glum really.

I have such a strong picture of FK in my mind since I saw this
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nn2h3_aH3voIt doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!0 -
Many, many congratulations, FTM!
And good for you for deciding not to let someone get to you. :TBack after a very long break!0 -
GQ - she climbs it, knocking out branches on the way up, then wraps herself around it about 3/4 of the way up perched on about 3 branches. You see a tail one side and a face the other! I will try and get some pictures this year. I have one on my FB page of the state of the tree once she had been up it. Very funny. Huges pieces missing
FTM - congratulations. xx
Hugs to everyone who needs them.0 -
Morning everyone, I had the yellow ball for a bit, but it's gone now...shame as I wanted to take the dogs out. Hope it's not going to rain, it looks likely.
Spent this morning making fruit cakes for Xmas for us, and I've had one 'ordered' too that I'll get paid for. It's an new recipe with no sugar added, smells divine, but seems to have cooked in a lot less time than stated, maybe cos' of the fan oven? I'll give it another 15 mins and then take it out. Made tons of washing up though  I also have a mice pie recipe that I want to try out for Xmas...an almond pastry and a toasted marzipan star on top instead of a pastry cover.
First thing this morning guy came to fill the oil tank up - so hopefully that will tide us over the worst of the winter. DD's BF adaptations to the heat sink radiator for the Rayburn has been a great sucess...I only have to turn it up a little and it warms up the bathroom and my bedroom nicely.
I've got to pop into town at some point to pick up my new reading glasses...and might check out the health food shop to see what Dairy free stuff they have that I might be able to put in a pressie for DD - I saw some choccies yesterday, but couldn't bring myself to spent £16 on a box of a dozen or so chocolates!

Just posted about this on the Preparing for Winter thread but thought it would be useful here too...
SAD sufferers - I am taking Vit D - been taking for a few weeks now and I feel enormously better. I didn't think it would make such a huge difference but I can't put it down to anything else so, as I know a few of us on this thread suffer, I would post here. I got mine for 90p for 60 tabs at MrS on the counter... I take 3000iu so a few tabs a day but stocked up and have enough for winter
I hope that helps someone x0
