New Year is a nice shiny new page in a school jotter ! A nice new house with clean bare walls to decorate ! A new turn in the path of life ! Our old neighbour used to stand at his back door at midnight and empty both barrels of his shotgun. I read somewhere it was an old tradition to ward off witches
Didn't work then:D

That brings back memories Mardatha. My grandfather always went to the back door of the farmhouse and did the same. I remember one New Years Day whhen granny noticed her washing line was lying on the ground. Upon inspection she found "someone" had shot right through it.
I say someone as my grandfather was adamant it wasn't him:)
I hate New Year with a passion. Part of the reason I'm so MSE is so we can spend New Year out of the country and come back mid January when it's all over. To be honest if my parents weren't around I'd be away for Christmas too. I'm seriously considering not putting up the tree this year since I'm not doing Christmas Dinner and we are off on 27th anyway. I do have dinner guests on Friday 23rd - maybe they would think it was a bit off if there was no tree. Hmm -will have to think about it.0 -

Morning all.
One large yellow ball here today. :j
I really need it, too, as I'm feeling decidedly- I went out last night with a friend I haven't seen for some weeks and found that she's having a really rough time: her eldest daughter has been really unwell and it sounds horribly like she's got a brain tumour, and her youngest grandson is also in hospital as he hasn't put on any weight since he was 7 weeks old - he's now 15 weeks. It's costing her a fortune in bus and taxi fares, not surprisingly, so I must go and look up the rules on carrying kids in cars (isn't there something about having to have a child seat fitted even for short journeys?) in the hope that I can go and pick her and her older grandson up if they get stuck again.
Right, I must plough on - I'm meant to be doing some work, not fiddling around on the forum.Back after a very long break!0 -
Awh CCP thats awful, sending her all love and light and strength , may things turn out better than she fears.0
