How strict are Ryanair with cabin luggage pls?

Holiday

Flew Ryanair from City of Derry airport recently and bags were weighed and measured. Fortunately I saw what was happening and offloaded quite a bit into my overcoat. Good job they didn't weigh it!!

Same story with Flybe at Belfast City recently.

Seems they have "purges" from time to time. Luck of the draw really.

on the way out fine, no problems, then on the way home they make you put you bag into a metal measure cage, really strict, dont be fooled on the way out thinking i am ok, they seem to be on a mission on the return journey to catch people out, seen one girl in the past trying to put all her clothes on to try and reduce the size of her bag, it was quite funny, but glad it wasnt me

Ryanair 'police' out in force (lol) at Alicante airport yesterday.
Some chap tried to get round it by putting his case into the EJ cage (it fitted) and feigning innocence.
Didn't work...and didn't fit into the RA cage!

Most carry-on bags wont fit into Ryanair or Air Lingus cages as theyre only 20cm wide. Easyjet and most other airlines allow 25cm.

Stansted Tuesday 3rd and Ciampino Tues 10th - the only passengers asked to put their luggage in the cage had obviously oversized bags (backpacks, holdalls etc), and the man with 3 suitcases and a suit carrier :eek: Much discussion in the queue as to how he got that lot through to the boarding gate, still wondering!

Stansted with the terminal with the gates 40 + are a little easier at th mmen as th usual customer desk where the suitcase nazis hang out is closed for renovation. Still not worth chancing it on purpose but had 3 trips in last coupel of weeks and no checks to date.
