I flew some internal flights in the USA recently with US Airways, and they have a totally different attitude to cabin bags. No measuring, no signs, no nothing. People with 2 or 3 bags, often the size of normal suitcases. And the staff were always helpful in trying to find room in the overhead lockers.

  • I personaly hope they start enforcing it 100% and not the lottery it is now. Is it fair on the people that have gone by the rules to get on the plane and there is no overhead locker room left and be told to put mine under the seat in front and loose leg room because mine is on the small size

Prestwick in Scotland weigh every single item of hand luggage .
Again, it must be a lottery on what staff are on duty. We flew from Prestwick a few weeks back, not everyone had their bags checked/weighed. A few passengers with exceptionally large looking hand luggage were checked, some appeared 'over' for the height but were allowed to carry on, 1 poor soul had to pay the £40 for the privelege in allowing RA to check her hand luggage into the hold.

I've flown with my cabin bag (just a cheap one from Poundstretcher!) on numerous occasions and they've never weighed it or measured it. I have scales at home though that I use so I do know it's always under.

I think it's luck on the day though. One flight I went on didn't weigh/measure the cases but at the boarding gate the staff there were asking some passengers to put their bags in the measuring guide and were making some people pay to put their bags put through in the hold compartment.

Has it passed the cardboard box size checker?

Would be quite interested to know if it has passed? If so I might try and take mine!

If Ryanair get stroppy with you break the wheels off Ian .

Teahfc Have you ever had your bag weighed ? Prestwick in Scotland weigh every single item of hand luggage .

Had my bag weighed and in the metal measure several times, I am never normal more than 9.5 kg gross weight.

    Size has never bothered them.

Luton,Stansted, and East mids are my departure airports depending on price :rotfl:

Never failed after 4-5 times, I dont take the pee like some try to.
I keep bag as lean as possible so no to draw attention to it.
Would hand over my £40 if I failed and that was the ruling.

Thanks everyone, I have given in and bought a smaller bag. It would have really annoyed me if I'd had to put it in the hold for just 1cm!

A luggage shop were doing buy one get one free that finished at 2pm and I was the last person in so got two in the end!

Just to update, I had already checked in online so maybe escaped the stricter check in staff but there was absolutely no problems and there were people getting on with bags much bigger than mine, plus people with carriers bags, holding coats etc! So I really didn't need to get the new bag!

they weighed your bag, but even worse they only let you use a 1lt plastic sealable bag for your liquids, I used the same one I have used for the last 3 hollies and they wouldn't accept it - had to buy a pack of new ones.
    Titch :)
