Hello, I am going to Madrid with Ryanair on Wednesday and am only taking hand luggage. The bag is 37cm wide and about 17/18cm deep but the hight is bordering on 55/56 maybe even pushing 58cm if you take it from very bottom of wheel to highest point. Ryanair say 55cmx40cmx20cm is the limit.
I have used it 2 or 3 times on bmibaby flights with no problem and it's supposed to be a cabin bag but I've heard horror stories about Ryanair trying to squeeze every penny they can out of you so not sure whether to risk it. Could potentially cost me £40 each way if they make me put it in the hold?!
Just wondering if anyone has had any problems or heard of any problems with them measuring them exactly or the like?
Thanks for your help

It depends on the airport and the staff, a lot of it is a lottery.
However, if you take a bag that is bigger than the dimensions they state, then expect to be charged to put it in the hold.0

Unfortunately, it depends on the day and the staff. When I flew out of Hahn a couple of months ago, one family had to check in a bag that fitted in the guide box, but protruded a couple of inches from the top. But those who managed to smuggle larger bags past the check-in staff had their bags measured in the queue (and some were HUGE) and still got away with it...import this0

            Thanks for the replies.
I can understand a couple of inches maybe but, it's 1 maybe 2 cm. Do you think they would be that particular?0

Yes, they need to catch people out and enforce their rules to stay in business, they also have the cardboard box checker which your bag would not fit into, can you afford to risk losing £40 per sector?Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.0

            Damn, OK.
Could anyone please recommend a good cheap cabin bag then please!0

My bag is 18x40x57 cm and I have flown close on 50 Ryan air flights with same bag, you would be very very very unlucky to get nailed for hat bags dimensions if you kept to 10kg gross weight.

If Ryanair get stroppy with you break the wheels off Ian .
Teahfc Have you ever had your bag weighed ? Prestwick in Scotland weigh every single item of hand luggage .0

With the cardboard boxes they use now they stand your case up and just put the box over it. If the box does not touch the floor you bag is too tall, goodbye £40 no chance to try and force it in/out like you could try and do with the metal cages at checkin/gate. At Stansted they patrol the area so you can be checked before you have joined the queue at the gate.Hello, I am going to Madrid with Ryanair on Wednesday and am only taking hand luggage. We bougt 2 of these off ebay, glad we did as everyone was made to put luggage in cage, just don't put bulky stuff in the front pocket of bag, fitted loads in them as they are very lightweight.
