things is that when Microsoft say please update to IE9 you get people who will do this as they think they have too, but other things like Adobe and internet banking have not caught up yet and wil not work with IE9.
and sometimes older computers dont have the resources to work properly with MS updates.
rather than get a new computer, get a new updated graphicas card, new memory and get a DVD rewriter, replace your graphics card and memory and then remove your cd drive and replace with dvd drive and thius should sort our your problems and will be cheaper than a new computer.
my dell dimesions lasted 10 yrs just updating until i replaced this for my business. my dimension is still being used by the kids for general surfing and homework
Which updated video card would you add to that machine? I'm not sure it even has an AGP.
Though should still be fine for undemanding use.
If they intend to keep it, then they should have a backup solution: CnM Core 80GB Portable Hard Drive £21.990 -

You may have a DVD reader and/or CD writer - embossed on the front of the tray should be the text that will tell you.
If it says DVD-ROM only, that will READ DVDs but not write to them; in which case you'll have to copy your photos to CD.
If it says DVD-Recordable or DVD rewritable, you'll be able to write to DVD
Do you keep all the photos in one place, i.e. in one folder (My Pictures? Shared Pictures?)0 -

Download, install, update and run a Quick Scan with Malwarebytes' AntiMalware. When complete, choose 'Remove Selected' if there is anything to remove and Reboot your computer.
After restart, open the program again and go to 'Logs'. Double click on the log produced for today and post the contents here.
Next, download, install and run the HijackThis Version 2.0.3 installer and use the Quick Start guide to enable you to produce a log for posting here too.0 -
You don't have IE9 as it won't run on XP, which you do have.
Get your son to backup your files to a DVD as you have the drive - I'm sure he'll be able to do that.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the In My Home MoneySaving, Energy and Techie Stuff boards.
