Should we blacklist all Moto service Areas
If a company wishes to set up a service area on a motorway they have to jump through a lot of hoops. For example they have to remain open 24 hours a day, every single day.

It would be interesting to know that if one of the conditions is to not only provide free parking for a motorist to rest, but does not allow them to make any sort of charge for non-commercial vehicles for long stays.
  • At the risk of sounding political (they are all as bad as each other) in todays BIG SOCIETY it is all about getting rid of publicly owned assets (that's called INITIATIVE)so that commerce can make profit out of the everyday public - that's all they deserve because they (the public) caused the banking crisis by overspending on non essentials ... like extortionate parking fees ... and overpriced coffee

On a recent visit to TL Scotch Corner south bound I was once again asked for my car reg at check-in.

The difference this time was I had to enter it into a machine on the counter and also put the length of my stay.

This is another car park operated by Moto
  • At least you got asked!
It's a great system - Travelodge forget to ask you for your registration and you get fined £100!
But at least they don't get a cut out of this ...

Q: Why do I have to pay to park if I stay longer than 2 hours

A: All Motorway Service Operators offer free parking for 2 hours, but charge for parking after this period. This position has been the same for the last forty years on the motorway. BET YOU DIDN'T KNOW THIS!

The reason for charging after two hours is that
our main purpose is to provide rest and relaxation for long distance travellers. AND WE HAVE DECIDED THAT TWO HOURS IS THE MAXIMUM TIME THAT THEY NEED
Because we are in convenient locations, many people like to park in our locations and then share cars for the rest of the day and if we do not make a charge after the 2 hour free period we simply wouldn’t have enough spaces for our permitted use. AW SHAME
The 2 hour parking policy in place at Moto is accompanied by many clear signs, which we have endeavored to make as visible and helpful as possible, at entrances and exits as well throughout each of the parking areas. YEAH?
The parking controls in operation at some of our sites consist of digital camera automatic number plate recognition systems, also known as ANPR. At other sites we may have a patrolman.
It is not our intention to charge drivers who marginally exceed the parking restrictions, nor charge those who have slightly overstayed whilst significantly patronizing our facilities. ?? SIGNIFICANTLY PATRONISING
However, it is important that Moto is able to offer enough spaces to regular travellers and we cannot do this if our car parks are full of long term parking vehicles. AW SHAME

    not

Let's keep this in perspective - the night receptionist in your case was asleep on the job and let you, him/herself as well as their employer down.
    It's not a fine btw.
