Travelodge, Moto, CPPlus

A person stayed at a travelodge recently which was located adjacent to a Moto Motorway Service Area. On the Travelodge website it stated that there was free parking. I parked in the Travelodge car park ata space immediately in fron of their front door. That person has now received a parking charge letter from CP Plus for £80/£50. Is there any point in contacting Travelodge and asking them to sort it out or should that pertson just ignore the letter? ALSO has anyone else had the same experience and what happened?

You can safely ignore it, but contacting Travelodge and telling them you wont be using them again wont do any harm.

I don't use welcome break services or Days inn since Parking eye sent me a letter. I wasn't bothered about Parking eyes letter but Welcome breaks response was crap!

You should have put on your poll carry on using the services but ignore the PPC's

This is a free money for all cash sloshing scam, everyone is in on it, the bussines that employ them get free money, the parking charge company get free money.
Nobody is going to rock that boat, its free money galore and the best bit is you dont have to work for it.
Who is going to turn that down, the fishes in the sea keep coming, they keep paying everyone gets the free money, everyone is happy.
I suggest you act in your own best interests and dont use any business that scam parking companies and if you are going to put pressure on motorway services do it to your MP and ask him why in these times of austerity are the government maintaining slip ways for private companies who run PPC scams and if they maintain the slip way and through causeway for services who owns it ? and if it is the public why are the cameras at the top of the slip road on public land and if the government dont own it, why are they maintaining it out of our money whilst the services rob people using the slip-roads.

  • Seems that if these companies continue to send their threatening letters then that is HARASSMENT and an offence in itself.

Yes - it has been said before on other threads here, PPcs breach all sort of laws but not much is done about it.

    Harassment Act breach

Breach of OfT guidelines on debt collection

Breach of BPA guidelines on signs and on pursuing the registered keeper

In disabled cases, almost always breaching the Equality Act 2010

In many cases, VAT evasion (pretending they are exempt for their 'parking fines' but they are NOT fines). VCS were investigated and slammed by HMRC for hiding behind pretend 'fines' which were obviously found to be nothing of the sort:

    https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/3195808

However, due to SOME good Trading Standards Officers, some PPCs have faced Court on criminal charges:

    http://forums.pepipoo.com/index.php?showtopic=63597

I do not have a link but I also read that Parking Eye were being investigated by Trading Standards in East Riding, I think.

So maybe collect your scamograms (see the top thread in the forum for pics of the letters to expect) and then send a copy of them with a complaint, to your TS Dept and ask if they will investigate the various breaches.
PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

Don't bother complaining to the BPA. A few weeks ago I sent of an email to the BPA about the blatant way PPCs try to fool motorists into thinking they are some sort of official organization. This ranges from the signage, the paperwork and the names of the various companies. Up till now the BPA haven't even replied to me when I asked for their comments on the matter. So yesterday I resent the email and this time included a copy to Patrick Troy. Does this apparent deafening silence from the BPA mean that that know they cannot defend the indefensible?
What part of "A whop bop-a-lu a whop bam boo" don't you understand?

    Have I got this right?

You can expect to receive more threatening letters from CPPlus

You do not have to reply to any of their letters

It might be worthwhile telling Travellodge why they will not be used in future

The only legal action CP Plus can take is to take someone to court.

The court may find in their favour but you will not incur any costs claimed by them

You can tell everyone on Twitter, Facebook, and on Threads that ithey should refuse to use Travellodge and Moto tp prevent the same thing happening to them

In fairness to Travelodge, I would not automatically assume that they have have contracted CP Plus.
In this case it is more likely to be the owner of the land on which Travelodge and the other facilities/services are sited.

billstickers - you have not given too much detail away in your initial post, but my guess is that you either parked in an area away from the car-park set-aside for the use of Travelodge guests, or there has been a failure of some sort in the system probably in place for the recording of guests vehicle details on arrival at reception.

BTW - either way, ignore CP Plus as already advised.

    Thanks Hadeon

Don't want to be unfair to Travelodge or even CP Plus but a check on the internet shows CP Plus seem to have a terrible reputation and the general opinion seems to be that Travelodge are unsympathetic and that CP Plus will continue to harass with stronger threats. As a simple member of Joe Public this is very worrying, and it is objectionable to be treated in this way.
The Travelodge car park was accessed directly from a public road and not through the motorway exit. At no time was the Service area car park or facilities used. Ther car was parked directly in front of the Travelodge entrance. Arrival and departure was within the Travelodge booking limits. There was no indication on the Travelodge booking confirmation or their invoice that there were any restrictions on parking. Arrival was in the early hours of the morning and there were no restriction signs of any sort to be seen. At the booking desk the recptionist (who had to be woken up) made no mention of any limitations on parking and on departure there was no one on reception.
