Have just spoken with someone else from Co-op who said that the switching team has made a mistake and sent letters out to some customers who are eligible for the bonus. Interestingly, I was asked if this was going to to be my main account, and would I like to switch my direct debits over from my other bank? Even it were to be my main account, I wouldn't tust their switching team with this.

In order for you to be eligble for this offer you need to pay at least £800 p/m into your a/c for the three months after your a/c switch was complete.

Unfortunatly you have not done this and therefore are not eligble for the £200.00 switching offer.

Letter received confirming the switch on 26 Oct 2011

    Paid in

    £800.00 27 Oct
    £800.00 22 Nov
    £800.00 22 Dec
    £800.00 22 Jan

    From the FSA handbook:

The FSA's handbook says that a "month" means a "calendar month". So we apply the ordinary legal meaning of a calendar month. This means that ordinarily a calendar month finishes on the corresponding date of the following month. But if the calendar month starts at the end of a month which contains more days than the following month, then it finishes at the end of the following month. And so:

Six months from 7 May 2008 is 7 November 2008 (and not the 6 November 2008).
Six months from 30 August 2008 is 28 February 2009 (as there is no 30 February 2009).

My completion date was 14/11 and I made my payments on 18/11, 14/12 & 16/01. Based on this meaning of calendar month do you think I can kiss goodbye to my £200 because I paid on 14/12?

Give them a ring, as I said earlier, some letters have been sent out incorrectly (as in my case) by the switching team. It's a faff, but they should be able to confirm all is ok. I was told I'd be receiving a call from one of their managers before close of work today to confirm this, but as yet I haven't received it rolleyes.gif.

I guess that answers my question! :-(

I think the only thing to do is to argue that technically you have put:

"£800 p/m into your a/c for the three months after your a/c switch was complete."

As your switch was complete in October and you have paid money in in Nov, Dec & Jan.

Not sure it'll work but it's worth a shot!

It's difficult to say whether or not the letter saying not eligible has been issued correctly though. As I say, some have been issued incorrectly, so it might still be worth ringing them.
  • Got my £200 today (although its dated 22nd... might have gone in on 23rd @ midnight but didn't check until today) - I did ring up on 22nd (not received it yet) and asked when I'd get paid...

    :)

I called c/s and the chap said, having checked my a/c, he couldnt see anything out of order that would jepordise my claim. He then said he would pass it over to his line manager to check and then the line manager would pass it on to my a/c rep (3/4 day's) to hopefully release for payment...

Well I rang CS as I still haven't received mine and they told me that it could be anytime up to end of March to pay it.

I asked to check payments and seems they were alright.
  • Completion date 15/11/2011.
    3rd payment made on 15/02/2011.
No letter nor payment yet. In any case, if they say they pay in the 4th month...

Any other reports of letters being sent to the wrong customers?

    Thanks,
