Thanks Justin. I am very motivated to do this. It will leave me in a position at the end of 2012 to be able to buy my own house and do it up if needed and move out. Brilliant idea for a threa, the how much can you save thread that has been going ages just does not get the numbers in to spur each other on, i am another that will find myself always on this thread next year.

Very excited about the prospect of getting 12k nearer to my first home! It's definitely going to be a challenge, but I'm going to give it a real good go! :)

Oh can I join in please? I'd like to go for £12k which I will split between a savings account and overpaying our mortgage.

At the moment I round down the balance of our current account to the next £10 every Friday and transfer the odd £x.xx to an online savings account (it's amazing how that adds up) and at the end of each month I split whatever is left between mortgage overpayments and savings account - some months there's not much left but other months there is.

My main thing that I will do from 1st Jan 12 is try to cut down my Tesco habit
    Mortgage Aug 22 £280,000
    Current mortgage  £28,000
