I have decided to have a bit of a spurt on my savings and in the process of joining the agency to do extra shifts. Ironically, its a good time to go on an economy drive because it reigns in the unnecessary spending we do over xmas. I am going to cut right back on everything and only buy one of everything (such as booze!) because we can go mad at this time of year.
I've told everyone I am not doing much for xmas in the way of pressies and I think people are relieved as they are in the same boat. Me and hubby are not buying for each other, we decided yesterday that we would tret ourselves to something we want at around a tenner and we are taking the immediate family out for a xmas pub lunch which should be a nice treat (only 6 of us).
I have a xmas tree already which has served us for about 15 years, will go round the local park and nab a few twigs to make a wreath for the front door, bought a turkey crown, ham, xmas cake and bottle of (ald!) baileys and 2 prawn rings from lidl already and going to get bits every week to keep the costs down. I have been saving £25 a month for xmas on top of these savings which tend to do us for january when its like a 6 week month.Save £12k in 2012 no.49 £10,250/£12,000

Keep going everyone - the end is almost in sight!
I've been thinking about a 2013 thread - would people be prepared to do this again next year?Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind.

Absoblimminlutely!!! I now have to save to take Little Miss Gap to LA in 2014 so I need to do this again next year. I have my target in mind already and I am raring to go. Even although I don't post much (usually once a month to update my total) I feel like I "belong" and setting my goals publicly means I do my best to achieve them.
You have done a fantastic job this year SF and I really appreciate it. The spreadsheet is brilliant.

Definitley, sign me up. It is due to the focused saving at the start of the year that I was able to finally pay off my mortgage in May. Thanks SF for this great thread and for all your hard work in updating it every month.:T:T0 -

I would definitely be up for it.... its only because of this thread was I able to save so much this year! Thank you to Slowlyfading for updating all of our totals and motivating everyone to keep going with this challenge! :T
Looking back to this time last year, it seemed quite daunting to set a 12k target, and have 12 long months to do it, but time has flown by and it has been just thoroughly motivating having this threat to update and peek at how others are doing and how they are feeling, cos 9 times out of 10, someone else is feeling the same as you!
So my question would be is the new thread going to be "12k in 2013" or "13k in 2013"?0 -
