I may have to drop out of this challenge/change my goal
I did actually save up £1.5k (didn't update the signature/thread) but I have had a rough couple of months which have affected my savings. My father passed away at the start of february and funeral costs and taking care of my mother/other siblings have meant that saving money has been the least of my worries. I managed to take a few days of paid compassionate leave, but also had to take a couple days of unpaid leave (could have taken it as annual leave but i think i will need that later on).
On top of that last week i had a car crash (tyre blowout). No-one was hurt (thank god) and I didn't have to claim on insurance. The car was a banger anyway, so it wouldn't have been worth it. I'm looking at buying a new car but that's going to set me back about £6k, of which i'll be borrowing some from my sister. Therefore the majority of my next two or three pay cheques will be paying her back. As a result, I doubt i will be able to "save" any money until June/July.£12k in 2012 challenge, No. 174: £6242.82/£6,000*

Profligatemax- I'm very sorry to hear your sad news, and sorrry for your loss. Make sure you are taking time to yourself to help you deal with what has happened.
Glad no-one was hurt during the accident too. Don't worry about a challenge at times like these & know the people on the thread will be more than happy to welcome you back later in the year if you feel able to participate again :0) you could always do a half year challenge if you feel up to it by then

Aw, bad luck there profligatemax, hope it turns around.
I'm not doing great either - lovely sister has taken her sweet time deciding her birthday destination which doubled the plane fare and all the cheapest villas were gone£552 spent before I even leave the ground!
I hope next month will be a better one and I'm pretty sure already that I won't meet my target but still, keep trying.Emergency savings: 4600

Profilgatemax - So sorry to hear of your loss, I hope you're keeping well.
I managed to sell some jeans this weekend for £5 so I'm happy with money coming in rather than going out! Didn't go shopping this weekend as I didn't need to, so hopefully that will do me some good0 -
sorry to hear about your loss profligatemax, its hard to save as life keeps throwings things your way and bills keep coming in. very hard too when you have a bereavement to cope with too. All the best and hope you get sorted. ((hugs))
I havent posted on here for a while as I have been poorly with a cold which flattened me, also money is tight so nothing else saved.
I have a cunning plan though...I have opened up a 1st direct account regular saver at 8% and will try to save the max every month over the year and then put it all into an ISA before the end of the financial year. This should max out interest.
Also fixed my ISA for this year at 4.5% with Halif ax for 5 years as I dont intend to touch it. As i said to OH we might not have saved this money up so lets pretend we dont have it!
Got to pay the balance for the holiday next month so will be bumping along with the minimum for the next few months to catch up and save up spending money.
I am constantly looking at ways to save money every month, food for the 4 of us varies from £35-£60 per week from ald! and we eat very well really as I use up everything. Rubber chuck lasts us 3 days then its jacket spuds cheese beans salad, curry, pasta rice and lentils with tinned fish then back to rubber chck again!
I dont buy cleaning products except was up liquid, laundry powder (basics) bleach zoflora and stardrops so no spending on that. Toiletries are just the basics.
Clothes all 2nd hand, veg growing in summer, bake my own bread, got a remoska, use economy 7.
Anyone got any ideas to bounce off for saving money? I must admit, I make channel 4 superscrimpers look positively decadent!

Profligatemax I'm so sorry for your loss, and sorry to hear you are having such a difficult time at the moment. I'm sure I speak for us all when I say that if you decide to go and come back later in the year you will be welcomed with open arms. There is no shame in changing your goal either. Take care of you and yours.

Last week I passed my driving test so I will be able to save a bit more now I'm not paying for lessons. However my excess has doubled so I'm wondering if I should have a seperate savings account to cover this, just in case.
Nothing esle to report but am on track for my saving in 2012.0 -
This is really motivational, thank you.
