jencolescott - don't worry about changing your target :) Can you just fill in the form in the first post of the thread, so I remember to change it later? Ta :D

  • just updated my sig as I have opened a 1st direct regular saver at 8% interest for a year then will sweep it into next years isa. OH is going to do the same so should get a better rate. Also have transferred this years ISA to a fixed one earning 4.5% as I need to keep the money untouched and its the best rate I could find.

So, my pot is getting bigger and currently stands at £3980.11!

I am saving like mad for my hols too, all 4 of us are off to Italy for 1 week, its so expensive to go abroad I dont think we'll make it for next year, quite happy to stay in England in a cottage or something.

Bit cheesed off as my gas and electric has had to go up, DD payments not keeping up with the usage. I have taken to turning everything off at noght (apart from the freezer lol!) but we sat down to watch a film I taped on the digbox and it didnt tape it all, accussing look from all the family as it stopped halfway through, I think they are onto me!

'How much can you save' thread = £7,050
    Total=£29,100
    Mfi3 no. 88: Balance Jan '06 = £63,000.
    Balance 23.11.09 = £nil. :)
  • I keep wanting to put money in and then have to remember not to as I'm currently transferring over my current ISA to a new ISA ready for the new tax year (and making the most of the current deals ;)) and I don't want to mess up the transfer.

    Hello everyone!

It's been a while but I am declaring a March total of 830.48, with a 2012 total so far of 3378.34!!

I am quite shocked at how much we can save if we actively try to squirrel money away before it gets spent.

Glad to see other people doing so well. It sort of spurs you on!

Total for March £370. not as much as i'd hoped but have quite few things going on......as do most of you by the look of it.
On the plus side the OH phoned me at work today declaring we need a new washing machine (argh!) then by the time i got home he'd realised he'd turned the water off to it:rotfl:clothes dried in the sun :0)

cancelled the gym and got kettle bells for my birthday and joined a running club - bargain.

I've also opened theFD 8%, that will go on a new garden when it ripens (sorry) next year.:D

Got the ISA interest and am transferrring into better one now. its like a savings spring clean.

planted seeds for veg last week so fingers crossed will be Ok for salads for a while.

Nice work every one - keep motivating x

Managed the expected £550 this month, bringing me to £2k for the year so far. Falling behind the target a bit, but best I could manage in an expensive month - fingers crossed April should be better, and May much better, so not giving up hope of the £12k yet.

edit: as an aside, anybody know what the median savings (excluding pensions and property) is for the UK? I've tried hunting with Google, but haven't turned up a definitive answer yet - a report from Lloyds says the average is just over £5k (http://www.lloydsbankinggroup.com/media/pdfs/LTSB/2012/0302_UKFamilies.pdf) but I don't know how accurate that is and I assume the average (unlike the median) is likely to be heavily skewed by people with six- or seven-figure savings.

Right everyone, I won't be online tomorrow or for the next two weeks really, as I'm getting married and then off on our honeymoon! But will do a mammoth update when I return :D

Slowlyfading - All the best for Saturday and for the next 2 weeks - we shall miss you - but wish you all the best for your wedding and on coming marriage! :j

Quick pre - update from me - I have done quite well this month despite it being a bit topsy turvey!

I shall update tomorrow, when my pay comes in and I am able to cream off this months left over in the current account! (I always wait to cream off any extra in the account until the new wages are sitting comfortably in it!)

From the looks of it we all seem to have a bit of a bumpy month - but I'm pleased that we are all sticking to it and saving the pounds and the pennies!

All the best for everyone else on this thread! Hope that you are all enjoying the sunshine while it lasts! :) x
