Well done, everyone seems to be getting off to a flying start!!

I'm not sure what to put for my running total, my wages for this month are now in my account, but I already had a few thousand in there. (just because its been building up over ages and I've been too busy/lazy to move it). Is the challenge for newly acquired in 2012 money? .. if so I'll have to start a spread sheet and work out my outgoings from my wage for this month only.

I've not spent a lot this month, mainly because my parents took me on a caribbean cruise to celebrate my 40th and we only got back in the middle of january. I did spend a bit on clothes and a case beforehand but I managed to get a lot of what I needed in the sales. Cruise was fab btw!!

I've opened a regular saver.. Saffron BS at 4% so will be putting £200 into that each month. I might open a 2nd RS if I can find a good rate.

I have a few text books that I've finished with so I'll be putting them on amazon in the next few weeks. I'm also going to start making a few christmas gifts for next year. I have some sewing books with some lovely items I could make, but I'm terrible at sewing, so best start soon. anyway, its a good way to fill an evening.

Managed to get some brand new winter tyres for free so thats saved me loads. I just paid £10 each for them to be put on. Just need it to snow now!!

    keep going everyone!!:T

Well, first day of getting to Feb payday went well! I have walked to and from work, and took in some left over soup for lunch. A total NSD for me, so I feel virtuous! :p
I've got a plan so cunning you could put a tail on it and call it a weasel.

butterfly I think it's strictly for money saved in 2012 but I may be wrong, I'm sure someone more knowledgable will answer your question soon!

I haven't had a chance to read all the posts yet but I'll try and catch up soon! Just filled in the form with my January total save of £365 :j

Not quite on track for my target but my wages have been lower recently as I've missed overtime due to being ill. That said I'm currently recovering from an op and it's amazing how much less I've spent by not leaving the house! Fingers crossed I'm on the mend now and should be able to save more in a few months.

    Hope everyone has had a healthy-saving-January :D

    Evening all :hello:

Just wanted to pop on and say well done to all those submitting January totals :) January is a bit naff for everyone so I think we've all done well to save anything at all :D
  • Well done to everyone saving anything in January!

My total isn't as mush as I had planned. I hope £5,000 hasn't been too optimistic for me, bearing in mind my total life savings so far is the most it has ever been at nearly £3,000! I feel we have left ourselves a bit short this month, as DH isn't paid till the middle of February now and there is a bill that needs paying before then?

So my total for January is going to be: £292.87 for No.159. I have updated the info for you too.
Currently debt free (for 4 years) - ISA Savings now £4,050.56

    £800 for January.

Good start but ive an expensive February ahead. I'm trying to average at least £600 per month which would mean £7,200. I'm hoping to hit the 8k mark which would bring my overall total to around 10k.

That in addition to a good current account balance of say a few K to help ease the pressure of everyday living should put me in good stead for 2013. I expect my overall worth to escalate quickly over the next few years. :)

Soo addicted to saving now. Ebay sales reached £166, just for our old games & old clothes: once we take postage & fee's out we should be putting an extra £100 into the pot for next month.

We've been making our own lunches every day for the past 2weeks, to stop me buying hot water for coffees (27p a cup 4 times a day) I've taken a flask of water in daily and made my own, Made Nigellas breakfast bars yest for brekkies all week at work & leftover lamb biryani for dinner, lamb soup is bubbling away for tomorrow :0)

I was naughty and had a latte at work (£1.25) but iys my only one for the week! It was much needed to get me through 6 hours of complaints quality checking! ;-)

Keep it up everyone, Im loving this thread & the positivity!
    First home- Oct’16 until June’21: £170.995- Overpayments made £13,784 (25% extra!).
New forever home- Sep’21 £309,449 @ 2.05%. Plan to clear it before 30 years!!!!!!
  • Thats a shame postergirl, is there any way you could ring them up and tell them you lost it and get a refund?

I phoned tfl but although my card is registered they said the details weren't there (???) and they couldn't help, I needed to speak to a different section and that section in turn said that they couldn't help and that I needed to speak to the first lot of people who then didn't answer their phones. So unfortunately, not had a lot of success there. Oh well, such is life I suppose.

  • Boo hoo hoo if I do the Maths it looks so grim!

In terms of official savings, it's only £118.93 this month. That's due to me completely forgetting that I would have to pay tax on some long-forgotten projects from 2010!

I have decided for the purposes of my sanity and the overall success of this mission that I shall discount the tax for 2012/2011 from my January outgoings. But if I do reach target beforehand, then it is my aim to make the new target £10,685.80 - to cover the amount of tax paid too.

If we discount that, then the grand sum is £804.73 which is excellent, only £30 under target. Considering I started the challenge two or three weeks into January, and I've had two very expensive meals out for people's birthdays... I'm really quite happy! :)

Now to update the front page.
