What?! You poor thing! That sounds awful. Well done on the money saving though!!

Thank you. I feel as though I've been living in a soap opera and that the producers decided not to air that episode because no-one would have believed it could actually happen. But it did to me. We'd been together 11 years and I had absolutely no idea......
I'm turning my life around and the worst is definitely over now. I've no idea what he future hold but building up a stash of money in the bank is a good place to start....and am enjoying reading all the hints and tips on here

Updated my January total of £219.60 via the spreadsheet on the front page.
Nothing more has been added to my savings account for Feb (started on the 20th for me) but I have been adding to my sealed pots.
My total includes my personal spending money/saves and I have used some of this month so my Feb total won't look like it is going up much. I may exclude my personal savings from next month and just include our joint/family savings.
I must stick to my budget this month, expecially for groceries if I am not to dip into the savings as Feb is going to be a very tight month for us. Pay day/March target starts on 22nd Feb which seems a loooong time away.
Well done to everyone on their savings in Jan:TSave £10,500 - £2673.77 - 25.5%
Pay off £7000 - £1743 - 19.4%
Make £2021 extra income - £99.750 -
Hi all, nice to read how everyone is getting along. Happy to say I am making headway and while it is much harder than i thought it would be my focus is shifting and I am constantly thinking about cutting costs and saving money. With this being my first month and not realising how best to organise myself I am failing miserably with the grocery challenge but at least I know how to pick things up next month. I managed to get the council tax paid early last year so have 3 months free this year rather than just feb/march saving myself £375 and i have changed tariff's and got a new energy monitor that has reduced my DD from 194 combined to 125 which will save a whopping £828 per year and lastly the fixed rate period of my mortgage expired and while rates are low I wil save £60 per month on my payment! I am cooking more, whoopsie-ing, wombling and all sort of things I would never have even known about if not thanks to this site so I'm sure there are lots more savings to follow. I've got heaps of stuff to ebay and hoping over next month they'll have some more free listing days(so far they have coincided with other plans) I have started saving christmas vouchers with park and stamps with tesco and really feel there is a light at the end of the tunnel. Thanks and good luck to everyone.2012 Challenge £1923/£12000Jan GC £BUST/£100 = FEB £0/£1500

Well saving lots of money is definitely a positive way of distracting yourself from life's ups and downs - it'll give you something to focus on!
Either way, you sound very upbeat which is great - keep positive!!

I just wanted to say that your attitude and determination are really inspirational!
Stick to your goals because I bet that holiday to Peru will be sensational.Saving £10,000 in 2013: £4491.48/£10,0000 -
No 145 reporting a big fat £0
I am blaming DH 1. needing new glasses and 2. Buying a new TV for the bedroom, honestly I leave him alone for one afternoon and he goes shopping! I was very mad and he nearly took it back but didn't. So now we have a massive CC bill to pay this month so the money we would have put onto the mortgage is paying that!
Lots of birthdays this month too, but I am sort of organised and so fingers crossed so savings will accumulate!!Mum to 2 DSs, dog mum, wife full-time worker.
Keen to live a healthly lifestyle and save money0 -
I figured out ages ago that I am rubbish at NOT spending what is in the account, so I transfer a chunk of money to a savings account at the start of each month. It then becomes a game of living off what is left. :A I've misjudged it a bit this month, and have left myself with zero cash :rotfl:
I know exactly what you mean about being terrified of getting run over. What distance is it for you to get to work?
I'm exactly the same, I probably have enough in my current account for petrol to work, my phone bill (only £16) and a little bit of food, that's it though. If I had more in my current account I'd just use it without thinking... Work is 9ish miles, but I have to go past Gatwick airport (and associated traffic) or use country lanes - both of which are scary when cycling!
I did walk to OH's earlier today which is a 6 mile round trip, was quite proud of myself for not taking the car. Very sad! Google petrol calculator says I've saved myself a whole £1.60 but it's all money and walking is a lot healthier too.
I feel for you LittlestFlower. I'm in a situation where my sister won't let my OH in the house anymore, but I'm on the mortgage with my dad and can't leave because with that mortgage considered the bank won't lend OH and I enough to buy our own house (South East) so I'm saving my 12k for a deposit so I can get out of here. I know it isn't as bad but it's horrible when people put you in situations that you have no control over x

Me too! If I have money in my account I will find something to spend it on hence working out what I need for bills\food\fuel etcand moving most of what is left to savings. I have just over £500 left when all these come out so sent £400 to savings leaving me £100 for other stuff (last month this ended up going on Dentist, Ink and Theatre Tickets :P)0
