There's a setting you might want to change on you new pride and joy... by default Siri is enabled when the phone is password-locked.

iOS is so great that it forced update on my wife's iphone 3g previously and completely incapacitate the phone.... As the new iOS then was not meant for iphone 3g but they force her to upgrade.... So be careful of the iOS release.....
iTunes.... again, be aware of them.... remained my only credit card fraud till date (I do a lot of online shopping), and I didn't even buy anything with it.... just registered the card!!!0 -

From what I can see android devices are trying to set up prices in line with iPhone. Others release the product at high price and than drop by up to 50% over 2 to 3 months so the secondhand Market become very cheap. This is one of the reason to get iPhone.
The total cost of ownership is higher for an iPhone than a comparable high-end Android handset as you are paying a premium in both the outlay for the device and the monthly contract price and terms, I can see why recouperating some of these costs may be a priority for you given that you find yourself in that situation.
Whether I get £100 or £150 for my handset doesn't bother me as I didn't have to pay anything towards it in the first place, I am on the most suitable contract terms for my usage and I certainly won't be paying anything towards my next high-end handset come renewal time.
You went for the iPhone, good for you but please refrain from posting factually incorrect and misleading comments about anything else.0 -

My Samsung Galaxy S1 was sold at 65% of cost one year later .
The OP and the recent posts suggest to me not somebody that goes out into the market place asks for opinions decides what's best for them . Returns home happy with the purchase and says yes i am glad i bought XXX . What we have here is a constant drip of anti Android posts many of them totally wrong in content .
Its either fish gone off under my keyboard or something stinks regarding this thread .

How did it force an update? As far as I'm aware the last iOS to support the 3G was 4.2.1, so once you have 4.2.1 on there, it will tell you your software is up to date. You can't upgrade any futher unless it's via some hacking means. Plus, when you do upgrade you are given two warnings before the update, both of which you have to click 'yes' too for it to go ahead with the upgrade. That's hardly forced.
I can't say there's no fraud on iTunes, as I imagine it's possible for every type of internet shopping. So very bad form from apple for that.Sigless0 -
... or the reason to wait for 2-3 months and to get some other phone for 50% of the original price.
It's not that I am advising you to by this phone or that phone. I see that you have already made your mind. I just try to show you that the logic you use to justify your decision is flawed.

With iPhone it work out cheaper. You pay bit more to start with when you resell you will get about 50% of it's value. After unlock from the network you will get bit more. With others you will get much less.0 -
Like Rev says, you have to agree multiple times to each iOS update, you really aren't forced to update. And you can't install iOS 5 on a iPhone 3G anyway.0

Don't make things up. iPhone do not force up dates. Also it will only update the correct version. It seem you have tried to hack the phone and got it wrong. This is your fault and can happen to any phone.
If this was true on google you have many post.
Send me the link otherwise STOP making things up.0 -

Goodman, through the thread it seems you are the one making things up, yesterday i connected my ipod touch 4th gen and the itunes did in effect force an update and twice further was pushing to upgrade the device to iOS5, how many times will the software ask if I want itunes to be my default music or whatever? I already said no and no means no! Apple is great but it is not as great as you are trying to make out, each to their own eh?0 -
