Put it like this, I don't have an iphone, you tell me what your handset does that mine cannot do (or anybody else's)?If i was in the market for a new phone the smug and often false comments would put me of joining your Apple bandwagon .I want a phone to do xyz not to be a status symbol that i can brag about all over town .
In the end, if you fall into either camp, you are really only 'hurting' yourself by deliberately excluding devices due to some hang up over what owning such a device would indicate about your personality. The truth is, no one actually cares, and you may simply be passing on the best device for you because of these pre-conceived notions.0 -

So you're posting on a Money saving forum about how proud you are that a company has made a higher gross profit from a product you've purchase.......?
Ok....next question...which is better, Amiga or ST?0 -

It's actually not relevent either way. The spirit of MSE is to point people towards to cheapest way to get the things they want/need. That does't necessarilly mean the cheapest product.0 -

Very high profit the company makes indicates indirectly that their product is likely to under-perform in terms of value for money.
Like, say £6/1Gb and £3/1Gb when the ongoing price is about about £1/1Gb.0 -
Who said 'the cheapest product'?

That's far too simplistic a way to look at it. A smaller profit for the manufacturer doesn't indicate better value for money.0 -
I said 'indirectly' and 'likely'. And I posted some figures to support this. It is easy to make high profits by producing the phones without memory cards and selling 16Gb and 32Gb for £100. Just an example.
Yes, not every company can afford doing this and I admit that this is a great marketing success of Apple.0 -

You have missed the point. In response to the post, Samsung would be happy if its numbers were like Apple.
Because way Apple prodcuts are manufactures by having one or two focused products per range its proft is high. Also Apple only update its range once a year where elase Samsung / htc release phones every 2-3 months so R&D cost is much higher.
If you look at the smart phones its prices are same as Smasung / htc.
The Amiga is much better than ST mainly the sound0 -

It seems you have missed the point, why are you so sure Samsung are not ahppy with the business model that they adopt? And even if they were not, it's still not a reason for the whole world to rush out and only purchase Apple products, surely?0 -

There's a lot more to making large profits than by 'forcing' customers to pay an extra £100 for 16GB more storage. You've got to make something good enough to catch the customer's attention in the first place. This is where you need great product design skills.0 -
I don't know what we are arguing about really, but...mrochester wrote: »There's a lot more to making large profits than by 'forcing' customers to pay an extra £100 for 16GB more storage.
This does explain partly the high profits Apple make - because it costs just about £10-£15 to add extra 16Gb.
This doesn't make these £16Gb a good value for money.0
