The foward ones generally have three small lines but no - they don't actually need them.

That's because they work on a loop in the road and you trigger the sensors as you drive over them. Often the lines are close together and just before the actual loop in the road. Look for the cris cross of black pitch on the road surface.

    5t.

They don't need the 3 lines to read your speed, but they do need them for a successful prosecution as they provide the secondary check.

In order to prove that the camera is calibrated, the vehicle must be on those 3 lines as shown here:

You can also see the patches in the road where the loops are buried as mentioned above, and the magenta filter effect as someone else mentioned.

    • Check lines are painted on the road 1.8metres after the last sensor.
    • The tyre footprint will always fall within the 3 lines, giving a simple visual check for the VDU operator.
    • Where 2 vehicles appear side by side the offending vehicle is the one whose tyres fall within the lines.

are you sure there wasn't one on each side of the road and you got caught by the other?

Although your defence is a bit lame 'i thought it was defunct so i carried on speeding'

Read the post. There was one camera inbetween the two roads. It gets moved around from time to time.
And I wouldn't use that as an excuse, Im just saying thats why I didn't slow down.

OP, have you actually received a NIP yet?

Yes I have received the letter. I haven't replied yet.
I was just wondering if their photo is evidence enough for prosecution.

More than enough. What speed were you going and what was the limit?

Thanks. Thats exactly the kind of advice I was after. Although I'm not sure if it will apply exactly to the PEEK cameras.

To all the other self-righteous posters, I realise I was breaking the law and am most likely going to have to pay the consequences but I thought I would try these boards first. As fellow money savers I thought you too would like to know how to dodge a speeding fine and 3 points if it was possible.

Has no one else here dodged a parking fine??:money:

The best way to dodge speeding and parking fines (and bank charges, etc) is to play by the rules.

Peek is a manufacturer, they make more than one type of camera. Do you know which type it was that got you?

Different kettle of fish as speeding is a criminal offence and a parking fine isn't.

I know I'm not a mod or anything, but can we keep the moral debate about speeding in the other active thread that is currently discussing this topic as we'll just get the same arguments duplicated here.

Personally I think it's a valid question how best to reduce the financial impact of being caught.
