    Does my tweed in that.

Whats even more annoying, is people in big 4x4s or BMs, VOLVOs all with big engines doing the same or braking when nothing is there.

I know speed limits are for a reason, but people should at least stay close to the max if safe to do so, they say speed causes accidents, but i have lost count in our area of the number of times a slow driver has caused one.

I quite often meet the same person on my drive to work. he believes in the speed limits religiously! He will do 60 all the way up to a 40 sign and then brake really hard to slow to 40. Works the same going up the limits as well. Takes off like a bat out of hell when it changes from 40 to 60 (but never exceeds 60).

when i was taught to drive my instructor said you go as close to th speed limit as conditions allow, so i tend too! yeah thing with big cars i find they seem at times to go 35 in 30 zones then only speed up to about 45 when its back to 60....grrrr

Trouble is, it's getting so expensive to drive at the speed limit.

I've recently dropped from doing 70 on dual carriageways and motorways to doing 56 instead. Saves me > £50/month - so the equivalent of a £1k pay rise. That said, I drive a dinky 1.4 Jazz, I never brake for speed cameras and I always help people to overtake me asap - so I don't think I'm as bad as those OP's complaining about.

(I'll also say the opposite is true..I find myself doing 40 in 30s a lot more these days, if I think it's safe - much better fuel economy that way)

My favourite hate is on a clear motorway. There is plenty of space but you see a car ahead that keeps dabbing it's brakes every few moments, if you are going to fast just lift of the loud pedal! (it is normally Rovers and Fiestas doing this).

I do that, and I stick to 30mph. It's amazing how many people tailgate. I've started leaving the detachble tow bar on now, if I have to break at least it'll cost them their radiator, that'll slow them down more than the couple of minutes they're getting upset about.

I don't drive at 56 on the motorway but in the morning / evening when it's a bit busier (I leave at 6ish so usually traffic but moving) I tend to stick to arond 65 as it gets me there no later really and in the new car it seems to get me into mid 50's mpg.

I do this all week then on a friday afternoon drive it like I've stolen it - got to get some joy back from a weeks driving!!

What about the folks who slow down for speed cameras when its Facing towards them?
Speed cameras sited in the middle of the road can only do 1 way at a time.

i can understand the expensive fuel issue, so 56 on a motorway can be seen as acceptable but you HAVE to stay in the inside lane! at last on a motorway you can get past, i think the thing that gets me is the people on single roads who drive so much slower than they need to and you cant get by!
