Schools where I live still have a 30 limit.
When it's start or finish time and the kids are about I don't do 30 and neither do most people, because most people around here have a bit of common sense, so there's not really any point in changing the sign, when 30 is the correct limit for 90% of the day and variable speed limit signs are expensive.0 -
thre a few signs round here for 20 at school time-people are a bit thick or ignorantWhat goes around-comes around0

@ Esmerobbo and espresso. Yes these are near enough the location of the camera. It was actually further down the road but there are a few of these cameras situated on the same stretch of road and they appear to all be the same. The info from Esmerobbo confirms that these camera are actually meant to work in this way, which is all I wanted to know. It appears that this is sufficient evidence for a conviction so I will not contest it and accept my punishment. Obviously I shouldn't have believed the false information passed on to me but now I'm a little wiser and know more about how they work. Hopefully other people have learned a bit from this too.
And thanks for pointing out how dangerous the road is with the second google link espresso but as Lum says, its about common sense. I was caught speeding at 8.00 A.M. on a sunday morning with no traffic or people around. I wouldn't be speeding past a school. Speed limits are not always correct. Take the 70MPH limits on motorways for example. That was law was based on much less sophisticated vehicles with far worse braking distances but they never changed the law based on common sense. 80MPH is a very comfortable speed to a lot of people and is much safer than going 70 in an old vehicle.0 -
If Gatsos flash both ways regardless, that must mean the one near me mustn't be working. I've gone passed it plenty of times head on doing 35-38 mph by the car speedo.
