I think you are unlikely to be offerred a speed awareness course if the difference between actual speed and permitted speed is that great. If you are offered the course take it.0 -
I'm reluctant to give you my speeding information because I'm trying to avoid all the self righteous finger wagging which I'm already getting.
Its nowhere near as severe as you're suggesting and I think I will be offered the speed awareness course. I am aware of my options as they are made very clear in the letter.
I realise that I most likely will have to pay for this but there is no harm in doing a little research to find out if I could avoid a £60 fine and 3 points on my licence. That's what this website is all about.
This isn't so different to avoiding council parking fines as over 50% of cases are dodged when confronted by some legal loophole. Its illegal to park on double yellow lines but money saving expert is proud to be helping people avoid these charges. I'm just doing the same with speeding charges so give me a break.
So far I am only getting a serious answer from LUM who seems to know what they are talking about. Maybe we could all actually benefit from getting to the bottom of this as most of you have or will be caught by a speed camera. The law is not always right.
So, back to the topic at hand. I'm not allowed to give links yet (due to my new user score) and I cant insert a picture either because of the way google maps works and this forum requiring a link and not a picture file, but if you have the time, the road is New Chester Rd, Wirral, CH62, UK. If you go south from that road, it is near the nearest roundabout.0 -
Is it the one in the centre of the road near the Little chef?

OK after further research, it would appear that this is a PEEK camera, not any of the above. (speedcameralocations.co.uk)
The camera is situated inbetween 2 roads either side. There are road markings on both roads to indicate that the camera should be facing the rear of the traffic on either side of the road. The camera would normally be directed at the road markings on one the sides of the road but this time it was facing on-coming traffic, giving me the impression that it was defunct and the police didn't bother with it any more.
Anybody know anything about these cameras and my legal rights?
Looking on Google it is obvious that a different camera is now in use and that the markings that you refer to are old and not in use, although they will fool some drivers.
The sensor loops embedded into the northbound and the three white lines following are actually used by the new camera that has caught you.
It is a bit unfair to say that only Lum has helped you in this thread - perhaps the others simply just didn't tell you what you wanted to hear.

You have been caught speeding so pay your fine, accept your points, learn from it and move on. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -

I honestly can say, I have never, ever seen a blue Truvelo. The greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark0 -
Hi. I have been caught speeding by a gatso speed camera. I was always under the impression that it wasn't functional as it was facing me and there were no road marking where it was facing so I wasn't watching my speed. I thought they weren't allowed to flash in the drivers face and needed the road markings to confirm the speed.
Is there a chance of contesting this fine?
Well, maybe now you will check you speed more often. The greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark0 -
Parking fines don't kill people. Speeding does.
*sigh*
Inappropriate or excessive speed can kill. This is something different from exceeding the speed limit.
Sometimes both can happen at once (e.g. 50mph past a school on a 30 limit road at chucking out time) some times you can have excessive speed without speeding (e.g. 29mph past that same school at chucking out time) and other times you can have speeding without danger (e.g. 80mph on a completely empty motorway)
Oh and bad parking can kill, e.g. parking in front of a fire station, or blocking the driveway of a vulnerable and/or disabled person.0 -

Schools in my neck of the woods now have a 20_MPH limit near to them.0
