Speeding fine from camera facing the wrong way.
Hi. I have been caught speeding by a gatso speed camera. I was always under the impression that it wasn't functional as it was facing me and there were no road marking where it was facing so I wasn't watching my speed. I thought they weren't allowed to flash in the drivers face and needed the road markings to confirm the speed.
Is there a chance of contesting this fine?

Not all cameras are backwards facing, a fair few are forward facing and work just like a police camera.0

What colour was the camera, most Truvelo's are blue and face forward.0

There's a couple of yellow ones around Hull as well, nearly caught us out on Saturday.0

Look at the bottom of here http://www.pocketgpsworld.com/modules.php?name=Cameras&op=SubmitCamera , quite a good list with pictures.0

Theres more than one type of camera. Its best you find out what type it was. This may help - http://www.speedcamerasuk.com/speed-camera-types.htm
GATSO flash and take pictures of the rear as you pass.
TRUVELO do not flash and take pictures of the front as you approach.0 -
Were you speeding?0

Yes I was speeding but I heard they read somewhere that they need road markings to prove it.
As in my post, I was caught by a GATSO camera and it flashed me face on. I heard these are not allowed to do this and also
think its unfair as they moved the camera to face away from the road markings further ahead, giving me the impression that it was defunct.0 -
The foward ones generally have three small lines but no - they don't actually need them.
That's because they work on a loop in the road and you trigger the sensors as you drive over them. Often the lines are close together and just before the actual loop in the road. Look for the cris cross of black pitch on the road surface.
5t.What if there was no such thing as a rhetorical question?0 -

Are you sure it was a GATSO? Truvelo speed cameras are front facing and take pictures of the front plate and the driver and are being used more and more. The fact you didn't see a road marking suggests Truvelo as there are only three thin lines very close together, as in about 30cm from the first to the last, instead of a long drawn out set of dashes you get with the GATSO.
There is no chance of contesting the fine so it looks like 3 points and £60 for not being able to see a bright yellow reflective box.0 -
