You could be lucky, if they would send you a drawing so you can "check" to ensure you get the right part (as you have had difficulty getting the correct one in the past Havn`t you?) :) Although I think you will just be talking to a person on the phone who only knows part numbers etc.
However if you are unsuccessful, when you get your new one I suggest making a drawing/template from it for future reference. My local fab shop will no doubt knock me one up for a few quid when I need one. They sheared my register plate from 2mm galvanised for a £5 note. Miss the use of the fabrication workshop equipment. You could make anything, including stoves.

    Good luck

You've our masters in Brussels to thank for this. New regulations have enabled manufacturers and distributors to make even harder for retailers to discount, even if they want to.

    Yes I agree tis true.

Right, first quote is in. £1200 which seems steep to me. To say the least. Any idea if this is the price for installation generally? If so we might have to rethink the whole thing and just get a radiator.

Is it a detailed quote? a breakdown of what is being quoted for would be helpfull.

He is going to post the paperwork out to me. He said it included all the building work (? know they will have to take out a couple of bricks either side) flue cause he won't fit without one, fitting the hearth (we supplied) the stove installation, putting a vent in and taking all the rubble away. Said it was a two day job and he couldn't do it until December unless he did a Fri Sat fit.

Are you awaiting other quotes? If not I would obtain a couple more so you can compare. I believe that most installers are busy at this time of year so they will no doubt increase quotes to some extent. Supply and demand.

I am going to get a few more. One bloke is going to send his by the end of the week and have phoned a few more tonight. No wonder people are doing it themselves. He wasn't very MSE though, he was shocked at the price of the stove (getting his clearview delivered tomorrow) and looked at me gone out when I said the paint was a tenner a can.

Seems a reasonable price. At this time of year we are turning work away (literally). I hope he is putting an approved CO monitor in too, as you dont mention that. What is he doing about insulation around the liner? What is the guarantee on the liner - we have 25 years on the ones we install. You must get the HETAS compliance Certificate and a data plate and dont forget to ask for the liner warranty - we had one go at the top this week after just 6 years as the lady had been using smokeless fuel and not sweeping either :( But the warranty details we issued will cover her for replacing the deteriorated material. In theory as she hadnt had sweep certs for twice a year they could refuse her but as we have a 30 year relationship with the suppliers, it has gone through on a nod.

You can do it yourself if your OH and a mate are ok climbing ladders and walking on roofs? Its the carrying up of heavy materials on ladders and roofs that usually puts people off. Then you just get out buildings control to sign it off as safe (about £120). Although people often complain about the cost, think how much your washing machine engineer charges just for coming out and then all the bits on top - and he isnt risking his life every day working at heights and doesnt have the overheads, storage costs, insurances etc liners have.

    Hi Hetmar,

slightly off topic but why would smokeless fuel reduce the liners life by 80%?
I can understand how not sweeping it would be a problem with build up of materials that might catch fire but why would it rot the liner?

I assumed that build up would be more liable to cause a fire not eat it through?

    Just a question :)

    cheers,

Spoke with a very nice chap when ordering seals, glue ect, said a small sketch would accompany parts, hopefully this will be the case?

If not, I'll knock one out from dimensions I can take from original, baffle does not require precision manufacture!!

    Regards...........
